I would support this. I am not an OU student as such, but I study at the German equivialent and think the OU is amazing !

For what it's worth, I'm still technically a student with them, even though I'm not taking any modules now (and can't since I'm at a traditional uni).
Hello everyone

God this site makes me feel ancient ...

Thanks for letting me know about this forum girl afraid. I'm studying DD100 (Intro to Social Sciences) with the OU (started October 2005), aiming for a Social Sciences degree in 4 years.

Great idea to push for an OU section!

Hey I've just started DD100 this feb, how is it?
I am enjoying it very much - it covers a lot of ground (sociology/economics/politics/social psychology/human geography/social history), which is good, because it gives a broad-ranging introduction to the social sciences which can act as a springboard for further study/specialisation (as a result of this course I'm planning to aim for a social sciences degree with an emphasis on sociology). And it starts gently (helpful if you've not studied for a while).

Highly recommended in other words!

I'm on DD100. I started in October and so far I've only done one TMA. >_<

I need to catch up desperately. I have a TMA in exam conditions at the end of the month and I'm moving house!
Hi all you can count me in

I studied with the OU myself, I strongly recommend it, but unfortunately at the time when I did my psychology degree it did not offer good support for statistics, it didn't teach us SPSS. So it's not that good. Also, I didn't like the way they discouraged us from reading other material apart from the OU handbooks, which were pretty dated anyway. It's ok for giving you broad background knowledge, but you still need a master's if you want to pursue a career in that particular field.

A part-time university, with no campus, open to everyone.

Count me in! I'm currently deliberating over which courses to enrol for- I finish my A levels this summer and plan to do my degree through the OU.

Hello all!

It's good to see the OU finally listed here, maybe it'll go some way to changing the commonly (and incorrectly, I might add) held view that the OU isn't a 'proper' uni and nor is it a 'real' degree.. The amount of times that I've heard that rubbish is unbelievable, maybe we can educate them?? Personally, I think we've got it a lot more difficult as we have to juggle our studies around loads of other commitments, ie: work, family, health etc etc and we don't get as many of the benefits that those attending 'conventional' uni's get....

Ok, grumble over... can you tell I've just had this argument with someone?

Hello anyway, I'm on my second course and I'm now doing W200 (Intro to Law) in the hope that I'll eventually get a Law degree..
bluejaz, I wonder about that too (the perception that the OU isn't a *proper* uni) :frown:
wwwwwhhhhhhhhhhoooooooooooo count me in deof! Ive just signed up for a course starting in Sept 06....cant wait!!!:p:
