I keep seeing people asking for advice about learning Spanish, and I've had some PM's too! So, I've decided to make a thread to get everyone together

Feel free to post, no matter what level you are! Ask any questions, introduce yourself...anything!

Adiós!

If you're not using duolingo.com, you're doing it wrong.

En serio? Creo que es una buena herramienta para aprender vocabulario nuevo, pero no te ofrece ningunos consejos sobre la gramática y las grabaciones de las frases son pésimas.

It's good, and I like the layout and skill trea. However, if it had native audio recordings instead of the text-to-speech audio be much, much better.

I help you

" Hola, soy novato con el español y quiero aprender más. Creo que puedo mejorar mi vocabulario y gramática si converso con otros estudiantes.

En este momento estudio francés y literatura. En El próximo septiembre iré a Dijon para mi año de estancia en el extranjero. ¡Me encantaría conversar con todos vosotros!"

I hope this could help you. Feel free to PM me if you have any doubts.

Muchos gracias! Aprecio tu ayuda
Hey, I'm looking for a native Spanish speaker as a sort of 'pen pal', seen as I'm currently doing A Level Spanish (hopefully moving onto A2) to help improve my grammar and my fluency. Admittedly I'm not amazing, (according to my AS results) but hopefully you can help!

Being a native English speaker I can also help with learning that if you're interested, so it can be a two way thing!
Hello! I posted this in the Polyglot & Multilingual thread, but I thought it might get more responses if I also posted it here. Thank you!

This might sound a little silly, but can my fellow linguists assess my Spanish accent? I want to sound as much like a native speaker as possible, and I need some honest feedback. Below are two links to 2 voice recordings of me reading lessons from my Assimil Spanish with Ease. The text I'm reading might sound strange but just ignore that. When I speak I think my accent is OK but then when I record it and play it back to myself, I think it sounds really...English. What can I do to improve? Please tell me honestly.

Hello!,

I am a Spanish native and I have just listened to your voice recordings and you really do it quite good!. I'm going to re-record the same text to let you know the different.
A sort advice: Try to join the pronunciation of some of the words like "Y qué hacíamos..."

Thank you Caburn! :h: If you could re-record what I said and then upload it here; that would be such a massive help! I think in English it is called 'Synalepha' or 'sinalefa' in Spanish..I know about it but sometimes I forget about it. :colondollar: I must practice it more.

I'm afraid now I'm being deterred from taking Spanish A-level, and am being forced to take a more 'proper' subject. :frown:

What? Spanish is a 'proper' subject. Anyone who tells you otherwise clearly has no idea what they are talking about.

¡Estupendo! ¡Muchas gracias! You have a very pleasant accent. From which part of Spain do you come from?

Hi,

I am wondering how good I will be at Spanish if I had an hour one-to-one Spanish lesson with someone who is fluent in Spanish everyday for the next 3 years (including holidays and weekends)?

I am already fairly good at French, having secured an A star at A level.

Any help would be much appreciated!
I am not a Spanish teacher but I can assure you that If you have an hour of class with a fluent Spanish speaker daily during the next 3 years, you are going to get a quite good level, even if you have no idea of this language at the moment.

I used to be very bad with English three years ago, and nowadays at least I can hold a conversation... and best of all, I can read books, emails, articles...

Certainly, when I am reading I need to search for some words in the dictionary because the vocabulary is vast, but... step by step...
I love going to UK being able to speak with people, read street signs or the menu at the restaurants... this kind of things.

Of couse I make some mistakes but, who cares!, people are pretty always very comprehensive. If you don't believe me, try to go to France to practice your French!
