Islams should integrate more - then they wouldnt feel so isolated

does integrating mean that they should chuck out morality out the window just so they can follow you to self destruction? HA YOUR FUNNY!

According to Islam - drinking alcohol, dancing, listening to non religious music- and being in a place where others are doing so, mixing socially with members of the opposite sex that arnt relatives, and 'passing time needlessly that doesnt have a religious purpose' are all classed as sin - i dont think theres much more that could prohibit a practicing muslim from clubs, bars even the student union.

when i say clubs, i mean in the same sense as societies, not nightclubs. So i dont see how anything i said is off realms for muslims? Of course the degree to which sacred texts are taken to heart also plays a part, but for muslims in modern western society, i think much of what you said would be taking things very seriously.

well as i said, for a proper muslim, being in a place out of choice where alchohol is served is to be sinning, therefore they arent allowed to do so in islam - you should also note in islam there is no 'degree of taking to heart etc' either you beleive these are sinful behaviour as islam states or you dont.
i agree with what you're saying about alcohol...
but surely integrating with other people in societies and clubs(not in the nightclub or place where alcohol is served sense) is a positive thing.

Lmao at the things being said, half the people have no idea what the actual name is for a islamic follower and claim they know the religion, mate do what you feel is right no where does it say in the quran that music is haram what it does say is that anything which causes a change in behaviour and makes you make desions you previously wouldnt have is disallowed (haram) this is why many people believe that music is haram yet i remember reading an argument where they claimed that the phrophet himself organised music to be played at a meeting or a get together so really there is no right or wrong in this and it basicly comes down to what you believe in. The religion is so corrupt now that we have 7 people claiming diffrent things without a single argument which is why islam is being pushed further and further out of society.

Yep cause weed is no worse :/ makes sense, learn and understand why alcohol isn't allowed and then see how that applies to weed too.

I think you will find that the majority of Islamic scholars unanimously agree that music is haram, regardless of the type. A simple youtube search will reveal that is true, and these people have the evidence from the Quran and Hadith and the sayings of the companions that you are looking for.
Secondly I don't think Muslims will appreciate you saying something about their Prophet like that without any evidence.

On the issue of the thread it self, don't muslims have to pray 5 times a day ? Surely this had the biggest influence on the uni experience than anything else ?
*sigh* What does being a muslim have to do with it? You don't drink, it's doesn't mean that uni is going to be boring or others will force you to participate.

anyone tell me what uni life is like for you as a Muslim? Because for everyone else uni life is about clubbing and getting wasted so i was wondering how muslims find uni in terms of fitting in and stuff. Thanks.

Incredibly, even some non-Muslim students don't spend their time at college getting wasted.

I understad that many scholars have said that music is haram but only through intrepting things and in my eyes dont really have a solid argument also i am a muslim my self and i feel that these sort of things which cant be proven right or wrong is all down to opinion but then again that is my opinion .

That may be true for all sorts fo things, bt unfottunatly islam doens alow for this sort of debate, either you follow what quran/hadith/ and scholar opinion is or you dont. hadeeth say mohammed himself prohibitted recreational music, playing instruments and wearing silk - becuase presumably thats what arabs used to do to relax and socialise.

so either you pracitce islam as mohammed did or you dont tbh.

not if you are a muslim - the quran also warns muslims not to mimick behaviour of non muslims. he OP was talking about students going to bars, drinking, listening to music, dancing, mixing with memebers of the oppossite sex - all of these practices are deemd as 'unislamic'

You might be a Muslim, but what you don't understand about Islam, and trust me I have studied this, is that you don't just ignore the consensus of the scholars and choose your own opinion. Consider a few things:
1. You don't no Arabic hence if the Quran was prohibit music in a way the english translation couldn't make out then you wouldn't know.
2. The hadith of your prophet are in Arabic and hence you don't have full access to their meaning
3. I have personally heard scholars quote the saying of the companions of the prophet (who according to muslims have the best understanding of Islam amongst everyone) and they explicitly say that musical instruments, even singing in such a way that beautifies the voice is forbidden.

So for a layman to come and just say I am not convinced and this I will follow my own opinions is wrong in Islam.
