for the new a* grade for GCE, what do you need in AS to keep you in the running for it? ie. do you just need an overall A in AS, or a specific percentage? (...preferably from the perspective of OCR and Edexcel)

For an A* grade at A-Level, there is no specific requirement for AS. You simply need 80% overall and 90% at A2. The absolute minimum you'd need at AS is 60%, since anything less would make it impossible to get 80% overall, although in this case you'd need 100% at A2.
