Why do you need to know? Unis are unis. You go for the education not to "be in style" if you're thinking like that then I doubt you're mature enough for uni. And people at uni are definitely not mature.

P.s Where's the Scottish unis? For people like you I'd say St Andrews.

Universities are like brands - Cambridge is obviously a good brand for example, as is Stanford or Harvard.

Brands go up and down. Of course I know there are loads of rankings, but in a general subjective way, which Unis do people consider the most "fashionable" or "hi-status" at the moment? Ignoring subject specialisms.

I think it's changing a bit over time, but my top 10 UK list is:

    Cambridge
    Imperial
    Oxford
    LSE
    Warwick
    UCL
    Manchester
    Newcastle
    Leeds
    Bristol

    My international list is:

    Harvard
    Cambridge
    MIT
    Stanford
    USC
    Imperial
    Oxford
    Yale
    Princeton
    LSE

Is there a "fast mover" that is on the way up?

Is Oxford in particular in the way down?

    P.S

    "SoNottingH"

    "Bella"

    You're a Rah Kate Middleton/Princess Di wannabe aren't you?

Do you like musical theater and watch 'Made in Chelsea' "ironically"?
Hey! :unimpressed: I like musical theatre and I'm not a rah. Although, there was this one time on my gap yah..

In the most literal sense of the word, one thing I have noticed a lot from open days is what my mom calls the "drama student" look - a too-tight top, tiny denim shorts (or no shorts at all ), tights/leggings and ballet pumps, all of which look a size too short for them. In all fairness she was teasing me because I was looking at studying drama, but it did seem to be a really popular look (although I'm not sure why, it wasn't a good look) with drama students

Probably because leggings and tank tops don't restrict them in their artistic movements and such. Obviously, they need to be able to properly express their emotions.

Agree about the US unis on the international league, but sorry, sadly it's just a huge delusion at Oxford that they are still holding up. Cambridge is racing ahead on all kinds of fronts. The truth is that now, in the top 10 of the planet, Cambridge is the only real British player. Sorry all you Oxford folks, I'm sure you feel very privileged and up yourselves for being there, but you chose the wrong one. (or couldn't get in the other one, more likely).
Seriously, what are you on about? Every single world league table I have seen has placed Oxford in the top ten. And every domestic league table I've seen has placed Oxford in the top 2. Cambridge may be doing better in many aspects, but that doesn't disqualify Oxford from being a 'real British player'.

ps. I didn't choose Oxford because I couldn't get into Cambridge, I chose it because it's a more lively city and feels like home.

I don't want to go to a Uni that people just sneer at in a few years' time though and say "oh, such and such Uni is on the way down" as it might affect one's prospects.
    no it won't

It's so telling that, when asked which universities are most fashionable, TSR immediately refers to the league tables.

Ah, but not every costume in theatre is tank top and leggings, I had to play the Prince in pantomime in jeans and a rather tight top that, let's say, made it perfectly clear I'm not a boy

I'm sure it's not restricted to drama students but we were at the UCAS convention about drama courses and were startled by how many there were dressed that way

I think I've heard of every main Scottish University and even know a little about some of them and have been on an open day to Edinburgh. I come from London.
Your reply doesn't answer my question at all...

Fashionable? Probably Parsons or University of the Arts London or something, they're design schools after all.

In response to the OP, however stupid the question is, the most 'in' universities to attend at the moment are probably LSE, Cambridge and Wawrick. Note that I'm basing my response on completely arbitrary data, though.

EDIT Lol at all the negs - as if nobody else has thought for one minute about which Uni is on the way up and which down?? Which is coolest? All I'm asking is opinions on that, so far everyone is just pretending to be smarter and above all this. Lots of people talk about which is most "in".
Weren't you the one asking which Oxford course was the easiest? To be honest, it seems you're going to uni for all the wrong reasons.

Well yeah, we all know that the whole world knows Oxbridge. But none of your friends know any other English uni? How ignorant are they?
I'm a Scottish applicant too, and I can honestly tell you that many many Scottish students that I know couldn't name more than 3 English universities at best. Around where I live at least, we're actively encouraged to consider Scottish universities, and only Scottish ones. I've never been recommended to look at other universities and if someone does mention it, there's a consistent "why would you do that?". There's a general consensus here that Scottish applicants should go to Scottish unis.

I lived in Scotland for 3-4 years. When I added a few of my old friends there on FB (around 30), only 1 went to an English uni.

That kind of false insularity (partly driven doubtless by the SNP agenda) will do you no good in the long run, although I imagine it's partly down to funding issues?

I found out the other day that there's a 'University of Wolverhampton', keeping track of unis outside Scotland isn't worth the effort.

Aren't those kinds of things in fact very common reasons for kids of OPs background, eg, private school, posh home, etc? Eg, where can I be with the other posh kids, which college has the most parties, the hottest rich kids of the other sex, etc? Isn't that why they all gravitate together at Exeter, Bristol, Durham, Newcastle, Oxbridge?

LOL, it's time to mention Derby and Luton. Of the three, I would imagine Wolverhampton is the most fashionable.
