How do you guys react when you're in a situation where you have to socialise with people you don't know very well? Perhaps being the newbie in a group of friends...

Just be yourself! And be friendly and chatty! Don't stand in a corner waiting for people to approach you... approach people yourself  The conversation will soon be flowing and then you'll be able to relax!

I guess it is

I have the arms for it just when they asked me to go on the rowing machine, I couldn't stay on the movable seat, I fell off five times :colonhash: I don't like rowing machines, the whole movable seat thing just annoys me

Haha oh dear. That sounds like something I'd do. Rowing machines do look a bit scary.. in fact, most exercise equipment looks a bit scary to me.

I didn't even realise the seats in real rowing boats move until I was watching the rowing earlier! It amazed me a bit. That's my new learnt fact of the day.

He deleted them all now or made them hidden... IDK.

Personally though, I dislike him a lot now. He needs to grow up.

I know the theory...it's just hard to break into an established group of friends, with several conversations going at once, it can be really difficult to break in

The same way I react when I have the plumber come round to stop the leak from the ceiling. Think out ceiling might come crashing down soon

In all seriousness though, just talk to them as people.. don't try to impress them or anything. Of course if they're talking about crap you can't relate to, then I dunno lol..

I usually make friends by insulting them first though. Seems to work. Though only if they're girls :u:

 I did that once, I saw this woman with a group of people I knew and I went up to them and talked to them then she said something and I replied with "My god your a right whore aren't you?" and the rest is history... she is now pregnant with my child and we are due to be married in the winter :h:

When it's generally with friends.. I play it cool at the beginning..testing the waters etc to see how uptight they are.. but when it comes to girls I like; I just make light hearted jokes. It's probably why all my female friends hate me :ahee:

They love me really

I have to admit I must seem fairly quiet initially but that's because I'm trying to get the measure of the company.
You just have to get talking to people and steer conversation towards something you're more familiar with.

I know it is.. especially if they're talking about something that happened between them and you weren't there and you can't really contribute to the conversation... I've been there!

Just be as bold as you can! Even if you're a naturally shy person, just think these people don't know you, and they don't know what you're like. So just make a good impression and go for it! You could always select one or two people to start talking to, then just gradually join in with the group. Good luck!
