No, they are other companies that do it as well try Atkins, BAE systems etc.

At first, it was Swansea as they offered a year in N.America (so want to go America), and all the student reviews I've read seem pretty high. I am, but only because I live a couple of city's apart, and apparently it's the 'high end' of engineering university

Isn't taking a course with a year abroad more expensive? I wanted to do a year abroad too sounds nice xD. Nottingham have a good reputation for their mechanical engineering course n from Wat I've heard it's a superb uni to be at. I'm going to go to open days soon and I shall visit Nottingham,Manchester,(not sure about my 3rd,4th n 5th choices) as for the rankings don't really listen to that they are some unis ranked 30th and they are still really good courses the only difference is wat modules you study but some courses are identical to the unis in top 10.

Most employers don't even know which unis are in Russell group, which unis have a better reputation, which unis are highly ranked. All they care about is your degree and experience so don't worry

I've already looked into BAE, and apparently you need to be 14-16 and funded by your school or something. So I can't do it, because I've just started Year 12... I'll check Atkins out. Thanks!

On Monday I will be sending emails to Sheffield and Swansea regarding their one year abroad and grades needed for access course and if it would cost me more £££. I'l let you know, and I'l have a look at Nottingham!

its pretty much a one year intensive course for those who didn't go to A levels. It will allow me to get into uni next year.. I hope!

ahhh very similar to foundation year though in the foundation year they prefer you to have at least gcses in maths and physics at grade C or above. What are doing now then?

I got confused at first too. Cambridge, Oxford, Warwick, Leicester and Exeter all rank under general engineering because the first year of their courses are a mixture of engineering. You specialize after the first year.

Just to add, the Sunday times doesn't rank general engineering so it was ranked 7th for mechanical engineering in 2012.

Not sure, you would have to check on their website. I don't think they do aero, think it's mechanical, electrical, civil and materials.

i know they do mechanical, all the courses im applying for are all mechanical but you get a choice of modules in your final year were you can specialise in certain principles(for the MEng degree)...i want to work in aerospace/aeronautical after doing my mechanical engineering degree! first things first though gotta get the grades to make it to uni :redface:

What am I doing now? I'm doing physics / chemistry / higher maths in the access course. Just had my first week, was good.

If worse comes to worse, I guess the foundation option COULD be my only option to get to mech engineering. Howdyho, still get into uni I guess.

are you a scottish applicant? The foundation year is probably the best route as you spend one year learning all the basics then have an exam on it..if you pass you can then transfer to any engineering course that particular university has. depending on how good your passes are you can either go straight onto a MEng course or BEng. Im personally applying for the foundation year as my AS grades went very good and because applications are sent before december i have to submit my grades even tho im resitting the exams in January however i did get a B in Maths after screwing up one exam but hopefully i can get the A grade or A* if im lucky.

No lol, I'm English applicant.. Access course for those who didnt go to A level, so I've pretty much got a second chance
