Jobs for people with A Levels but no degree?

I'm looking to do A Levels at City College Norwich, then enter the world of work from there. I currently have a Level 3 BTEC National Diploma in Computer from Develop Norwich. What jobs are there, preferably in IT or Computing, for those with A Levels but no degree.

I know that pushing the trolley in the local hospital would technically be one, but I have no desire to work in Health and Social Care, otherwise I would've done the BTEC in that subject.

This may sound ridiculous, but I applied for a volunteer programme with the Prince's Trust back in 2013, which was in Health and Social Care, and involved studying a Level One Health and Social Care course whilst also doing a work placement, which included a variety of tasks in hospital, one of them being pushing the trolley. I got refused because I (by my own admission) found that "sixth form was a struggle", and ended up having to drop out of Year 12 without completing my AS Levels, which were in Maths, Media Studies, and Computing.

This was due to me being unable to cope with studying them as I was acutely unwell due to a severe flare up of Crohn's Disease, which made everyday life enough of a struggle, and attending sixth form impossible. I therefore get the impression that I would have a far better chance getting that job with a set of three A Levels.

Just get a job direct or better for the experience apply for an apprenticeship.

Its not clear what you wish to do as a subject or career?

I'd like to be an IT Consultant, or Cybersecurity Professional ultimately. In broader terms I want to work in IT.

Then it would make sense to look at the websites of such companies or id apprenticeships specialising in such areas?

So what you're saying is that there is no middle ground in the IT sector? Either you only need GCSEs, or you need a degree as well? Wouldn't A Levels at least be helpful for some entry level jobs?

In general, there are very few jobs that require A Levels specifically. They generally require either GCSEs, or a degree (or something higher). However having A Levels might make your application stand out to some employers who are only asking for GCSEs.

You could look at degree-level apprenticeships if you want something that builds on your A Levels without doing a normal degree.

1) That's correct. Good.
2) That's correct, and is in fact what I meant.

I never said any such thing. Apprenticeships arent just for GCSE students, they are of different levels and may require A levels.

Correct, but I mean if we exclude apprenticeships for a moment.
IT technicians and IT support assistants don't require a degree and you can get them with GCSE's or level 3 qualifications. If you want more software development or programming then you should consider an apprenticeship.

I wanna do the former. I have a Level 3 BTEC National Diploma (not extended though) in Computing, should I do A Levels as well, and if so are there required or just recommended?

Then just look to employers and see which jobs require A levels, most have been turned into apprenticeships and are better for it because they offered structured training and a career path. If you dont wnat to do one then just look for jobs that require A levels.

If you got BTEC in IT there isn't any point in doing A-levels in computing. When it comes to entry level IT jobs it varies with employers some will ask for GCSE's while others will ask for level 3 qualifications. If you have some coding skills you could build your portfolio of stuff you developed to show your level of IT skills if you want to differentiate yourself.

I have a BTEC in Computing, not in IT. I wasn't going to do an A Level in Computing, or Computer Science, rather in Maths, Physics, and Further Maths. I don't see why not given that I only got a Pass (PP) in my BTEC, which isn't good enough in my opinion.

Why bother doing those subjects if you don't want to go university? You seem more interested in getting a job than doing a degree at university. Generally, employers don't ask for level 3 qualifications it's usually either have you got GCSE's or a degree.

You're asking a good question, as a way of helping me to demonstrate a general academic aptitude in those subjects, which will help me get a job relevant to those fields e.g. Engineering, Operations on the Railway, Computing, etc.
