Guys have anyone done question 12 part b ? I've done it but my answer was different from the book. I wonder if its ne who done it incorrectly or text book have got answer mistake again. Please help please! My answer is 1959.86

L2 is paralell to L1 so gradient = same. It tells us it passes through the midpoint AB so find midpoint of AB, make an equation of L2 then find co-ordinates of intersection with C and then use pythagoras.

Your method is right, you just misread the question.

They're asking for the amount at the start of the 40th year, not the 14th.

Here are my workings.
You just set up simultaneous equations, you know the x coordinate of P and Q, so sub that into y=sin(ax-b) :smile:

I'm not too sure exactly what you did after log3(x2)=log33\log_3 (x-2) = - \log_3 3

log3(x2)=log33log3(x2)=log331\log_3 (x-2) = - \log_3 3 \Rightarrow \log_3 (x-2) = \log_3 3^{-1}

Can you see how to proceed here?

The question is given 0<x<40<x<4 and log5(4x)2log5x=1log_5 (4-x)-2log_5 x=1 find the value of x.

I did log54log5x2log5x=1log_5 4 - log_5 x -2log_5 x=1

which is then: log54log5xlog5x2=1log_5 4 - log_5 x -log_5x^2=1

=> log5(4x)=log5x2log_5 (\frac {4}{x})=log_5x^2

now i'm stuck :frown:

If you look at the sin wave to the left of my working out, I've drew on P and Q, so basically you're working out how far they have shifted to the right. The equation when working out P equals 0 - because you're going from 0 to P, and the Q equation will equal pi, because you're going from pi to Q. That's how I look at it (might be wrong but I got the right answer :biggrin:) And the highlighted bit should say Q not G :colondollar:

Did that make any sense at all?

for C2 , that was SO easy it was unreal . the radians question took a bit of thinking , but i got full marks when i did it.

nah bud , it was the last question on January 2012 ( i think ) and it gave a graph of sin ( ax -b ) and it gave the co-ordinates of the points where it crossed the x-axis ( in RADIANS aswell to make it just that bit harder ) and it said find the values of a and b and i was like ' whhhaaaaaaatttt the **** ' is going on here lol
