Calls to bann Ask Fm

So, in all the newspapers stories are appearing about children that have killed themselves because of this website. As a result, there are Facebook campaigns and letters have been sent to the PM calling for the website to be blocked and deleted.

I'm just interested to see what you people think about this.

I have an ASK.FM account and I made it so people can comfortably ask me anything they want. I received some mild hate, mainly homophobic **** but I just shrugged it off and laughed.

I don't understand why people open themselves up to so much hate on Ask.fm. First of all, they respond to the hate which is a huge factor encouraging the trolls, and drawing attention to the hate that could encourage more trolls. Second of all, why not just delete the account? On the other hand, the website literally serves no use than to ask an individual usually inappropriate questions or to send them hate behind a computer, which the founders make millions from. Not to mention, before ASK it was Formspring, and it's easy for more similar websites to pop up.

It's probably apparent I'm undecided on this, mainly because this whole porn situation I really don't want to see the Government blocking more and more things.

What do you think?

I never understood formspring accounts, as you say, it was begging for hate.

Why are people always trying to find someone to blame? Suicide is self inflicted deal with it.

I don't think it should be banned. What I would like to see is a function where people who post abuse anonymously get revealed.

I don't use this myself, but for the people who have decided to make an account and face the questions it was their fault. I mean who is stupid enough to not realise that they WILL get hate on there.

They should just remove the anon option imo...
There is no need to ban ask.fm.

Although I think they should implement a tool where a person can IP-block a user who is harassing them.

Good idea.

I read in the DM that the owners are reluctant to help tackle the abuse because they don't want to lose customers.
Ridiculous to ban a website that is used trouble free by the vast majority just because something bad has happened to one or two users. You'd think it was some sort of illegal drug being talked about.
Ask.fm is hilarious, great fun at times, if you don't like it don't sign up. If you're upset about some questions you've received that's unfortunate but ultimately not the fault of the website.
I'm guessing that none of the people who have said that it should not be banned have ever suffered from depression or been severely bullied.

Deleting these websites is unnecessary. All kids and teenagers nowadays should be taught to not take everyone/everything on the internet so seriously...

I think they should name and shame the people who said the abuse and lock them up.
I also think parents should take more control over their kids and make sure they aren't on ask.fm or twitter etc to make sure they are not being cyber bullied, its not like people will openly talk about these things, unless something major like this happens.

The whole appeal of ask Fm is anonymity you take that away and why would anybody ever bother using it?

Exactly, I'm with you on that one. However, when you set up these kind of account, you should be ready to accept the fact that people are given the opportunity to ask/say anything about you anonymously. I have never been a huge fan of websites like this or social networking sites as its hassle that you just don't need. My heart and prayers go out to families who have had loved ones commit suicide due to social networking websites and I just wish that our generation didn't have to revolve around stupid things like technology and social networks.

I said it in the other thread and I'll say it in this. Someone taking their life is tragic, but doing it after something said online is just bizarre. It really really is. This new generation worries me because they live their whole lives on Facebook and its nothing but pathetic. Ask.fm are not to blame here, and anyone who thinks they are wants their head checked.
I don't know why anoyone would want to start one anyway, you just get people hating on you and you have no idea who that person is. Nothing good can come out of it.

Ask is the only site which is anonymous. This makes it more dangerous. This is further compounded by the absence of a report abuse button. If such a function existed then I would support the existence of ask. At present there is no safeguard which is unacceptable
