Ah ok, freshers are mostly 18 or 19 (as lots of people have taken a gap year or had a year out for some other reason so 19 year old freshers are really common) some are a bit older and there is a girl I've met at my college who's 17 as she skipped a school year when she was 7 or 8. You have tutorials and lectures with other first years so they are mostly similar in age but in your college there are lots of events to help you socialise with 2nd and 3rd years, I'd say there are a pretty much equal number of 1st and 2nd years that I've met and would go and chat to if I saw them in the JCR .

That makes me feel a little better lol. I guess I'll move onto As levels then since like you said, at this point getting A*s at IGCSE wont be impressive. However, I do have to move back to England next year and I'm not sure if sixth forms take in new students for just year 13, so I was worried about being a year older than everyone as I might have to start from year 12. Now I can see that it's not a big deal. Again~ Thank you!

Just not sure how I'll apply to oxford and get the whole university application process sorted being home-schooled.

Resits don't make you look bad, that's just a lie made up by schools so they don't have to pay extra for your exams. Resit as much as you want, trust me.

Clue is in the user name?

"a student's application is unlikely to be adversely affected by their resitting one or two modules. However, there would be concern about an applicant's potential to be successful at Cambridge if they need to resit numerous exams, particularly where only a marginal improvement is achieved."

Cambridge do not like "as many AS resits as you want" and they tend to discount GCSEs taken a second time on the assumption that anybody can do better if they studied a subject for longer.

However if you have extenuating circumstances & educational disadvantage flagged up in your PS or better still reference they will ignore GCSEs to some extent. Other universities may have a more automated sorting system & you could lose out if you don't have English & Maths GCSE at a decent grade.

For Cambridge you will need an average UMS score including your maths well above 90% to be competitive for Economics. It has a 13% success rate. I believe PPE is even lower at Oxford. The courses really are quite different and you should decide which you prefer. For Economics at most good universities you need A* in your maths A2.

Depending on what other qualifications you have I think it is difficult to know how much you will be able to convince them that you are a competitive candidate. You will need Maths & FM, an essay subject and preferably a science too at A2 to demonstrate all round ability if you don't have good GCSEs.

I did have English IGCSE and got an A*. I will be sitting for Maths IGCSE this year as everyone on here tells me it's compulsory for all universities. However, do you think it wont 'count' as I'm sitting for them with my AS levels?

I am not one of those people who just wants to get into Oxbridge for the name. I mean I am passionate about economics and I recently decided that if I do apply, I'll be applying to Oxford for PPE even if it does have a lower acceptance rate. The relationship between political and economical events fascinate me, even more after moving to Bangladesh:biggrin:

I don't have a science A level :banghead: I chose History, Geography, Economics and Maths at AS. I already started studying them so I don't think I can switch:frown:

First of all, congratulations! Second, move to Bangladesh, self-teach all those subjects in less than 6 months (without any prior knowledge) and and see if you can still get those grades. But just to make you happy ... :adore:
