How important is chemistry for civil engineering?

My best friend wants to be a civil engineer and she will apply for Cambridge and Imperial.
She took: maths, further maths, physics and eng lit
She took eng lit instead of chemistry because she said she disliked chemistry a lot, but she is scared top unis might reject her because of her choice.

Tl;dr can you still get into engineering without chemistry?

Yes.
Maths and physics are the main subjects you need for Civil Engineering. Chemistry isn't required so your friend will be fine

As long as you have Maths and Physics, everything is OK.
But if, in addittion to that, you have Further maths, then its not OK... It's perfect!!! XD

P.D. I'm also a Imperial Civil Engineering Applicant

There is some chemistry, when covering the materials content, but you don't need any advanced chemistry knowledge to cope. Maths and physics is essential.
