Sometimes I don't feel like l know what l want to do, or what l am doing

I know that I want to work in a health/social care sector. I wanted to be a nurse, but after a bad experience of being in hospital as well as working in a home - it is not something I want to do after all, and I am too paranoid and not a mathematic person to be dealing with medications and all kinds of things! Anyway, last night I wrote a list of things that I would like to do - and first and foremost, it was the fact that I wanted to help victims of abuse and assault, because I, myself, have been in that situation before - and I have been thinking about doing a 3 year degree in Health and Social Care (already been accepted on conditional offers) and then contemplating in a Masters in Social Work to develop my knowledge and THEN become a tutor in H&SC/Social Work, to HELP others to get their qualifications. I want to do BOTH, help emotionally, and help physically. I feel that this is too much to do, and the more I think about it - the more I think I will be unsuccessful to get to this stage, and by then; I might even change my mind! I am a 21 year old mature student; surely it is about time I know what I want to do? I do NOT want to work as a care assistant my whole life, but I do want to HELP others. I feel like I am not INTELLIGENT enough.

I think you're thinking too far into the future. Take one achievement at a time and decide there after.

If you are good at the emotional side of life, you should definitely take it up. There are a lot of online resources for learning maths, I wouldn't give up.

Go for the health and social care as you have been given conditional offers they all slightly link somehow just that you need to study a specific degree to specialised in nursing or social work. See how the H&S degree goes and if you feel up to it as you approach the end then go for the masters if you still want to specialise in social work. Just remember there is no rush, don't do something just for the sake of it. I am applying once again for Undergraduate Social Work 2014 entry and I will be 21 next year. Do be sure about what you want to do as Nursing and Social Work are all careers that involve peoples lives and it has to be In you to want to do it not just for the money as an example. To become a Social Worker you still need GCSE or Level 2 Maths so don't be put off.

Good Luck

Thank you ever so much for replying! I understand I will have to do Level 2 Maths - I have 6 credits Maths Level 2 Equivalence from my Access course, but this will not be enough as they will want a qualification of some sort. I will look into it, but for now, I am focusing on my H&SC career
