The Future of the Financial Accountant

With fewer people taking the Chartered Institute exams in the UK does this seem to suggest that the job market for traditional accountants is gradually turning obsulete?

More and more people seem to be interested in Business Development or Portfolio management and investment banking as opposed to mainstream auditing.

Outsourcing could be a reason for this as Indian Accounting standards are just as difficult and to become a Certified Chartered accountant there you need to pass similar exams with only 11% of the population passing them each exam session.

With such sort supply would accounting be an extremely high paying profession in the future just as investment banking seems to be getting saturated?

That'd be nice...(dare to dream)

You'll get more response in the careers forum though.

If less and less people become qualified as Accountants and work for them still remains, then an increase in financial rewards may seem to follow.
Lets hope so!!
