GPA and British a-levels when applying to us unis?

Hi, I'm interested in studying abroad and the term GPA (grade point average) gets thrown around a lot. After some research I've come across a table that converts my grades into what roughly would be my GPA. A*=4.3 A=4 B=3.3-3.7. I've put the B grade as 3.5 and that means my GCSE GPA would be 4.01 and my A-level predicted would be 4. Do I combine them or leave them? What sort of universities can I get into with that?
Ummm I'm not really sure you can have a GPA above 4.0. My classmate in the US has a perfect GPA, which is 4.0 - you simply cannot score anything better than a 100% in a class.
GPA is considered when you're applying for US colleges, but you also have to take the ACT or SAT tests. That is what they look at, along with extracurricular activities. So if you were thinking about applying overseas, your GPA is secondary to those other factors and you can't search unis only based on that only.
