"Smile! It might never happen."

Stupid, because if a person is not smiling then that would suggest that something bad has happened: fake cheeriness is hardly going to help.

*cringes* I agree wholeheartedly.

One of the most annoying cliches is being told to "just be yourself". It doesn't even mean anything.

Guess it's true,
What they say,
A cliché won't save you...
At the end of the day.

That was actually a chorus I wrote for a song once. Oh I was young back then.

The word "banter" is being bandied around nowadays willy nilly, as in "He's got great banter" or "yeh, there was good banter". Overused!

I think it does, but it's rarely good advice!

"At the end of the day"
"End of story"
"Its political corectness gone mad!"

Im not racist because my mum/dad/sister/postman cleaner is half black/white/chinese/alien"
"You can't say that!"
" So ah sez/ So i gus "
"oh my days"
"just be yourself" is useful in what it's telling you not to do, rather than what it's telling you to do. i.e. Don't imitate other people, don't say what you think someone else wants to hear...just be yourself.

Same here. If I ever call a girl either of the above (in a non-joking way), I'd give you permission to shoot me.

I really don't think it does mean anything, because by definition you must be yourself, otherwise you'd be someone else. It's a very sloppy way of trying to say "Don't try to change how you appear to other people".

Agreed. Also in the "at the end of the day" hating camp.

"No offence, but..." *insert several minutes of offensive ranting*
"I love you."

So beautiful, but so often cheapened.

'Check You Out' - i use it. Sadly.

'I don't mean to be rude but...' meants they're going to be anyway

'No offence but...'means they're going to say something offensive

'Not being funny but...' means they're going to say something odd/offesive/rude/all three

I also hate 'at the end of the day' too, it bugs me so much!

As well as 'am I bovvered' or 'whatever' or 'talk to the hand' which are all used by my nine year old cousin
