how can you analyse a leader without looking at the major decisions that characterised their time in power?

I agree it's important but most people have already made up their minds, after five years, about the justification for such recent US ventures. Starting this all again just makes it more likely the thread will degenerate and the original points lost amid off topic debate.

8 points for posting a video!

I think Bush would have more than a warning level of 10.

I reckon he'd get a permanent ban for breach of peace.

Is he crap? quite frankly, at hwat he does, yes he is. I dont think there was ever a president who inherited such a surplus and turned it into such a debt.

When was there ever a surplus? If you look at the historical debt outstanding, even during the Clinton years, it continued to increase year over year. From US Bureau of Debt website:

09/30/2002 $6,228,235,965,597.16
09/30/2001 $5,807,463,412,200.06
09/30/2000 $5,674,178,209,886.86
09/30/1999 5,656,270,901,615.43
09/30/1998 5,526,193,008,897.62
09/30/1997 5,413,146,011,397.34
09/30/1996 5,224,810,939,135.73
09/29/1995 4,973,982,900,709.39
09/30/1994 4,692,749,910,013.32
09/30/1993 4,411,488,883,139.38
09/30/1992 4,064,620,655,521.66
09/30/1991 3,665,303,351,697.03
09/28/1990 3,233,313,451,777.25

Where was this so-called surplus?

No problem with the message but not sure if John Prescott is the most credible messenger.
Isn't all the derision of Prezza just the old snobby southern English disease of not taking anyone Northern or Welsh seriously?? I mean, is he any worse than a load of other politicians?

Hardest job in the world, I'd love to see some of these armchair-leaders on TSR have a go at running the worlds biggest country.

Yes, he has some whacky ideas, but no, not crap.

Is that China or Russia?

Americans tend to be too easily fooled by politicians and too lazy to care. He is solely responsible for the shambles that is iraq yet he opposes abortion so they vote for him.

Of course, Bush owns the last two years of your table. Also I see you have not included the Iraq War years. Additionally, this is public, and not private debt, which is yet another story.

I don't really know about the gritty John Presccot, who may well be massaging his working class roots for purposes of constituency appeal. As to Bush I do think he is one of the worst presidents in American history. Of all his major initiatives over 5 2/3 years, in which he has been massively aided by right wing Republican control of Congress, the only one which has been modestly successful is his AIDS initiative. The big set piece of the second Bush Administration, "Social Security Reform" went down to such an embarrassing all party defeat that it is not even referred to any longer. And that's before you get to foreign policy...

What is the level of support for Bush like amongst the electorate?

Has it gone up, down or stayed static?

Yeah except bush hasn't just got power. he's been in office for some time now.

but yeh he's a piece of s*i*e and has been since he first got elected. actually he was ok for the period after being inaugurated where he basically neglected his office and country for a couple of months to play golf, hang out and practice being an idiot... amongst other stuff - you know stuff crap people do!(?)

You must be getting your "facts" from that Fahrenheit 9/11 fakeumentary. In that movie, that fatass liar Michael Moore claimed that for the first eight months in office before September 11th, George W. Bush was on vacation forty-two percent of the time.

That's not fair because weekends are counted as "vacation" in those stats and that counts for 30% of the week. The rest of the time included time spent at Camp David, a fully equipped Presidential headquarters, and time spent at his ranch where he planned a summit with Vladimir Putin and met with Mexican President Vicente Fox. Moore counts time spent outside of the White House as vacation.

sorry, my mistake, there wasnt a surplus of public debt, my source was wrong.

that said, the debt now stands at $8,505,895,889,050.92 as opposed to $5,674,178,209,886.86 when he came into power. yet from 1990 2000 the increase was less than from 2000 to 2006, that really says something.
