Should the EU do more to prevent the inflow of illegal immigrants?

Numerous camps exist in Calais with illegal immigrants waiting and continually trying to enter Britain. Similar camps exist all over the EU.

1. Should the EU do more to prevent the inflow of illegal immigrants thus preventing the buildup of large camps?

2. What should the EU do with the existing illegal immigrants? Most don't have a passport so it becomes very difficult to deport them.

3. When boats from West Africa are in danger full of people looking to illegally access to the EU, should Italy aid the boats or leave the people on the boat to their own devices? What should Italy do after they have helped the people on the boat?

4. The people who illegally enter come with nothing. Who should provide their accommodation, food, water and other things needed to survive?

They should be deported back by boat and those taking the journey to the EU should be left to their own devices (i.e not rescued).

It's a shame we are as close as we are to the continent, otherwise this wouldn't be our issue.
But ironically these immigrants are mostly interested in London, which is both close to the continent and already overpopulated, so you could say that pretty much acts as a 'filter' for the rest of the country (and it means officials will take note of the issue, since the UK is London-centric.
