gggaaaaaahhhhhhh this is so annnoying. There are actual people and families working their bu** off to afford going to university and watching a privileged person just being 'funded' is like rubbing it in all those peoples faces. What's to say that after she gets her masters and still doesn't have a job that she'll make another video and ask people to fund her pension costs and pay electricity bills

For all the wrong reasons.

No one cared that she wants to research about the evolutionary blah blah, culture, genes, humans etc.

They only cared about her appearances which were determined by makeup, lighting, and funnily enough, her parents genes which she had no control of.

It may well be for reasons you perceive are 'wrong', it doesn't change the fact that at the end of the day, she's trying to better herself with an education. Would it make any difference if people were still funding her and she was ugly? No.

Oh God. You think all those top people who are giving her funds just basically fancy her? Yeah, that must be the reason. It couldn't be because they admired her for pushing herself forwards with it and for making good arguments and an interesting and novel approach? Nah. None of that. It must be entirely down to her looks.

if she's black she wouldn't get such a response.
did you read the youtube comments on that video?
many were so funny I chuckled.
wonder if they're on TSR.

Why are you annoyed with her and not the people funding her? She had an idea that could've saved her £26,000 and all she had to do was create a page on a website with some nonsense on it, create a video and had nothing to lose. Plenty of people will say "Oh the audacity" when someone else is doing it, but the majority would be perfectly happy doing the same if they were in her shoes. While I think she blatently didn't bother trying hard enough to get a job after graduating, and personally I wouldn't fund her, it didn't seem to bother the plethora of people who gave her money - and they're the people to be annoyed with, if you're compelled to be annoyed with someone.
Good for her

It's not like she is selling her body or virginity is it? The fees for PG Degrees are extortionate. I do have a solution for this: decrease the undergraduate degree fees back down to say £3000 (£3750 if you are doing a specialist degree) and use the remaining funding for postgraduate students if they want to further their education.

I'm not moaning about my degree as I love the subjects I'm doing but to pay £8100 just to read and have 8 - 10 contact hours a week is ridiculous. The things we do to make us look more employable and to have a good career eh?

Sort of sucks if you want to continue on with your masters and find the cost of the one year of your masters, is the equivalent to the whole of your undergraduate studies.

Wouldn't fund her personally but I would like to see some demographics on who did. Class wealth average joe, businessmen or any internal funding from oxford anonymously.

Then those people should have come up with the idea.

I agree with this 100%

Exactly, this is what I was thinking. If you're going to do a masters do something actually employable. What a waste of time.

Surely there should be scope for some people who have talent to be able to engage with non-vocational courses, if they can fund it - all she's done really is express that she wants to do that and a bunch of good hearted people have seen fit to make it possible for her. People don't particularly get outraged that wealthy kids do art history or other zero employment courses. Why be offended when someone manages to do one by simply asking for financial support for it?
on another note, giving out your name and where you'll be for the next academic year while begging cash off strangers would be a good way to pick up an obsessive stalking nutcase who now thinks you owe them.

sure this thought will cheer up her detractors.

It's quite difficult to maintain a good stalking in Ox - the colleges don't let just anyone in.

She is certainly getting some haters on YT. Not sure she will be all that worried about it though. Job done. She's off to enjoy the party.
So she couldn't save £26k in the 4 years she could have been working. Or take out a bank loan

But, because shes white, female and 7/10 she gets away with it. Good for her.

It's quite commendable, what she did was brilliant.

I believe that people who has extra cash, sees her passion in what she studies. More of my opinion, if I have the money, I will donate since I know it will be worth it - she is intelligent after all.

Very inspiring - I might do this for my Masters as well. LOL

What does the bolded bit mean?
Original post by EcstaZEEH
Human Sciences is not just Anthropology, it is consist of a mixture of Biology, Genetics, Physiology, Sociology, Stats.

I believe that her passion is very admirable and sadly a degree in "Anthropology" is quite academic based and a big percentage of graduates do a masters.

In my opinion, it's not a failure of critical thinking, since she said she wants to be a "scientist", she will need further education to be able to achieve what she wants.

Biology and Genetics are Life Sciences.
Statistics is not a science.

If she hasn't worked since she graduated, what bank would loan her £26K?
I thought you pay for a uni course only after you start earning over 21,000 a year ?

If you never earn that, you never pay it back.

Or is that just for dumber people ?
Masters in Anthropology ?! Out of all the possible courses why anthropology

She could have got a Career development loan for £10k and saved the remaining £16k from working

that is if she had bothered to get a job

I'm not offended, I actually don't care at all. The money is going straight to Oxford Universities' pockets, she will still be unemployed at the end of it or get a job doing something completely unrelated.
