Lol, can't believe I wasted about 10 minutes finding this thread, but just to say, I'm in France, and it's OK, nothing too spectacular, and certainly nowhere near as amazing as Durham, mainly because it's soooooo boring!! All the students go home at weekends, there's no union or student bars, and it's really badly organised, which I was expecting. Oh and the internet access is ****, according to an American guy I met, he had better access in Ecuador which is a DEVELOPING country.
Oh well, I'm still alive.
Coming back to Durham for a few days on the 29th Oct though!!!

But I'll bet Aquila will be a hell of a lot better.

As for organisation being non existent, its the same here. Good to hear that you're alive though.

I never knew you, but have fun in France anyway. I've heard only good things about French internet access, but that was in Paris and I guess it's probably different outside the capital.

Yes, the Limousin region (where I am) is officially the least-populate area of France. woo.

Still here, still bored. How is everyone?
Very well thanks Becca. I'm not at all bored here, there's so much work to do. But I do have a very long weekend(no lectures on Friday and not until 8pm on Monday) which is good:smile:

What's up in Limoges then?

Hello year abroad companions. It's still sunny here you know.
Sadly, I fear this American 'work' and 'midterm' malarkey may catch up with me soon.

What's up in Limoges..........hmm.........good question!! Not much really, although I am going to a concert tonight which will hopefully be cool. I think the prolem is I don't have any work. We're not obliged to go to lectures or do homework or exams or anything, so hmm. And my one lecture today was cancelled! And it's a really cool one as well, history of art. Damn.
How's Salamanca? I'm living with a Durham person who was there this summer and she showed me pics, it looks amazing!

Well I have had more than a month to matriculate, so I can pick and choose which subjects to go to. But I've stuck with my ones now since I've got to sit exams in them so it wouldn't be clever to miss lots of them. But one of my courses, we've only had one lecture for and for the past three the lecturer hasn't turned up so I can definitely sympathise.

Got it in one, it is amazing! It's possibly slightly bigger than Durham but you can easily walk everywhere and it is definitely a city to walk around in as the architecture is so striking everywhere you look. Even the suspicious Trev's lookalike that is the Art School. The people here are so friendly though and I'm meeting so many people of different nationalities and making lots of friends. So I'll shut up now.:p:

arkbar

midterm' malarkey may catch up with me soon.

I take it you are talking about the mid term Congressional elections? Or am I just being too much of a geek for my own good?:p:

Nope, midterm exams. Here, 'classes' last 10 weeks and you have exams after 5 weeks

I have exams in January if that helps.

I've heard Universities in the US are so much more expensive that British Universities too, and about how you have to pay so much for one credit...

I don't have any exams this year, if that helps.............:p:
Limoges is a bit big to walk around, the town centre's fine, but I live a 15 minute bus ride from there, and the nightbus goes at 21.18, 21.50 and 23.12 and that's it, so if you want to go out and don't have a car it's a bit ****, so evenings can be v. boring................gah

Well for a start, courses last 4 years so people are here longer. Because I'm at a public university, in state tuition is lower so most people here are from California. Cost of living is probably lower overall but I keep having to buy all those costly things that you need at the start of first year all over again.

Yeah, I'm surviving off one TINY pan and plastic cutlery, except I bought a knife. I had to spend 100 euros on bedclothes though which annoyed me, but now I have nice bedclothes lol......

No, not really, would've bought the stuff in a supermarket or somewhere if I could, but the ony place I could find was the most expensive duvet shop in the world. And I had to haggle. Try haggling over bedclothes in French when you don't know the word for pillow or quilt.......(I do know them now.... )
AND I have to leave all this stuff behind anyway because I'm flying with Ryanair who are putting their baggage limit down to 15kg as of the 1st Nov.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

Tell me about it, and Easyjet won't recognise my card when I try and book a flight.

Although I'm off to Madrid tomorrow and we have a national holiday next week on Thursday so I might be swanning off to Portugal.
