That applies to all newborns, not just those born in Muslim families.
The point was, and yes I didn't explain it fully, is that once a child attains maturity, he/she has to accept Islam on their own accord, and so they don't automatically become a Muslim, so to speak. The fact that Rushdie claims that he never accepted Islam on his own accord means that he was never a Muslim, hence never an apostate. Otherwise every human being is an apostate.

Anyway, I agree with Socrates and Howard. Calling an Atheist a Muslim is absurd. The AJC seems rather idiotic.
