History Degree. Am I aiming too high?

Hi, I'm applying to History at university level. I have applied to 5 courses.

History at Kings College, London. (AAA including History)
History at University of Sussex (AAB)
Ancient, Medieval and Modern History at University of Durham (AAA)
History at University of York (AAA)
History at Queens University, Belfast (ABB)

I am predicted A*AA at A-level
GCSES: 2 A*, 3A and 5B.

I fear that my GCSEs will let me down? In your opinion, which do you think i'll get offers for?

I know that the personal statement, reference, and overall application is taken into consideration... But, what do you think?

One question: If you do get into one of those universities, what are you going to do after you graduate?

At the moment, I think I want to do a Masters afterwards.
However, I am aware that a lot can change inside 3 years, and therefore I'm not really sure.

And what would you do after the masters?

Point is, get into one of the universities and then change course to something that is more career orientated.

That's fine, if anything I'd say go for higher, only really oxbridge and medicine take into account GCSEs. My school tell us to go for 1 aspirational (above predictions), 2/3 roughly in line with predictions, 2/1 backup below predictions. Just make sure you will like the course and uni, otherwise it's a waste of a choice
Oh and make sure your ps is awesome

I think a History degree would be useful for a variety of careers. Thanks for your opinion.
I think you'd be fine.Your predicted grades exceed their minimum requirements by a mile!

Thanks! Yeah, my school says the same. I like the look of all of the courses. Considered Warwick, but didn't like the look of their course unfortunately. Are you applying for university? and if so, what subject?

Thanks! I'm just worried that most people will be applying with AAA/A*AA predictions, and it'll come down to GCSEs :frown:

Hopefully will get Queens and Sussex.

I've got much worse GCSES than you(5A's,3B's and a D).My predicted grades are same as yours.Applying for Economics.I am considering Bristol,Bath or Warwick for my aspirational choice.

Word of warning: it isn't.

All 3 of those are fantastic. Particularly Warwick for Economics. Ever considered Durham or York?

I am hoping that since the 2 A*s are in History and Classical Civilisation, and the 3 As are Maths, English language and French, then I may stand a chance.

It what way isn't it? Anything ranging from banking/accountancy etc to journalism is possible.

You seem fine, don't worry! (I'm applying for History and Politics.)

I feel slightly insulted about someone saying that you should change course to something career orientated.

Yeah just go for it then, you'll be likely to get most, if not all, of your offers with those grades
I'm applying for Computer Science (slightly different haha). I've got offers from Queen Mary, Loughborough, Hull, Sheffield (grades dependant on interview), and I'm just waiting on Exeter!

Thanks! That makes me feel a bit better haha. Oh, cool! Particularly thankful that you replied to my thread considering it's not even your subject lol. They are all great places! I almost applied for Sheffield. Not gonna lie, whether the place interviewed for my course or not DID influence my decisions a bit haha. So stressful :frown: I'm sure you'll ace it though

Thank you! Yeah, I was always under the impression that it was a really good degree, considering the amount of skills you acquire! Perhaps not as many prospects as STEM degrees, but they were never my strength anyway.

Possible, but unlikely if you come across someone who actually specialises in those fields.
