Did I say something wrong?

Having a terrible time right now with girls :/

I had a quick bite to eat with a friend. She came in after me and as she was taking her coat off I said something along the lines of 'haha you look cute in your coat, just like a penguin'. She did though. I wasn't trying to flirt with her. It was just an observation. Since then the whole conversation was just me talking and her nodding and looking at her watch. Then after about 15 minutes she actually cuts me off mid-sentence and says she needs to go home, it was nice to see you blah blah. I then texted her asking if everything is ok, and she replied saying that I had been "inappropriate" with her because she has a boyfriend.
