Yeah that's the weird thing. Same with China they are two of the few countries that have maintained good relations with both sides. But they both are supportive of isreal. Isreal has picked up a lot of the slack from the sanctions that Russia has faced over the whole issues with Ukraine and isreal is China's second biggest arms supplier behind Russia. Not much would change.

So if Russia financed a coup of Mexico's leader and used Mexican nationalism to incite violence against American's would that be acceptable? How about Russia sending loads of arms to the Mexico/American border that threatens their security?

That's pretty much what the US, with support of Cameron and some other Western governments are doing to Russia.

China and Russia have too much of a murky past to really be true friends - at least for now, anyway. Also, China has a lot of interest financially in the US. All China cares about, other than the often turbulent situation on the Korean peninsula are her own affairs, which is fair enough. You may wish to read about the Sino-Soviet conflict of 1969, if you want to find evidence behind my point about the friendship.
