Does location matter?

Heyaa,

So I've been having difficulty in deciding where to go for university and I have been weighing out the pros and cons of the ones I think I want to go to. I've been offered a place at Loughborough, Leeds an Brighton for Graphic Design/Communication.

Loughborough is fairly high in the rankings, offers a placement year but is pretty much in the middle of nowhere. However, Leeds and Brighton are fairly large cities with lots to do, but aren't as good as Loughborough in terms of ranking...

So does the location really matter in university?
Don't be swayed by the rankings if you feel you would be happier in a city. After all you have to live there for 3 years! I have a son at uni in Brighton and it is a great place for students with lots going on. My other son will be going to Loughborough in September! Loughborough isn't a bad location. Leicester and Nottingham are both really near if you want big cities for shopping, nightlife etc. One thing in Loughborough's favour is that its so much cheaper for accommodation, food etc. than Brighton.
