Will unis look down on me for getting poor GCSEs?

I really hope my career prospects won't be terribly ruined if I studied at a former polytechnic such as herts 
I feel that the uni you got to doesnt matter that much, its the degree and classification that has much more of an effect on your career prospects

I think you'll be fine man. I know a couple of people who did BTECs and got into Uni of Kent (which is a good uni) for comp sci with worse grades. I'm sure you'll be fine for accounting. I'm In a much bigger problem with only 2 Bs and 5 Cs and I'm planning on applying for law. Doing history, politics and law for a levels. 😐
