Okay brother, I will tell you how I was taught and how it is performed in the mosques I've been to!

1. You pray 4 rakah sunnat, 4 rakah fardh, 2 rakah sunnat (This is the first half of Isha).
2. You can pray the next 2 rakah nafl if you wish but it is optional.
3. After the first half of Isha is done, you start taraweeh by doing 2 rakah's until you reach 20 rakahs.(Also if you dont have time to do the all 20 rakah for whatever reason then you may pray 8 rakah taraweeh).
4. After you have finished, you finish of Isha by praying the 3 rakah witr.

JazakAllah Khair for your help brother

I sadly don't know what rakah sunnat, rakah fardh, and rakah nafl mean; if you could explain with respect to what these rakat mean if they are a constituent part of one of the obligatory prayers that would be extremely helpful. And also, and I am probably getting confused here, but when does one recite surahs of the Qu'ran in midst of all of this? Is it while we rest in between the rakahs?

Thanks a lot once again brother.

O Allah, gladden the people of the graves, O Allah, enrich every poor person, O Allah, satisfy every hungry one, O Allah, clothe every unclothed one, O Allah, help every debtor pay his debts, O Allah, relieve every distressed one, O Allah, return every traveler (to his home), O Allah release every prisoner, O Allah, correct every wrong in the affairs of the Muslims, O Allah, cure every sick one, O Allah, ease our poverty by Your wealth, O Allah, change our evil state to a good one through Your excellent state, O Allah, relieve us of our debts, and help us against poverty, Surely You have power over all things.
Last ate at 1130pm because I missd Suhoor ( I think it's called?). First time fasting in my life. Going pretty well but the thirst is so bad. Finish work at 5 so I will be at home last few hours. Really enjoyed it so far.

Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim.

The sunnat and fardh rakahs are pretty much compulsory, however, the nafl rakahs are optional but if you complete it you gain the full blessing and rewards of the salah.

Try to memorise this table which is essential:

Spoiler

As for when you should recite a surah from the quran, it is after you have recited surah fatiha. You say bismillah and recite any surah from the quran that you have memorised. (See link below)

Brother please take a look at this link on information about salah:
http://www.islamicacademy.org/html/Learn_Now/English/Salah_In_Audio.htm

Also, I would advise you to perhaps use google or youtube as you will get a better explanation than from me

Insha'Allah you understand my explanation and if you have anymore questions please don't hesitate to ask.

So far so good. How's ramadhan going on for you?
Not sure if I understand the word i'tikaaf like you do... Care explaining a bit?

MashaAllah that's great. Ramadhan is going AMAZINGLY for me, I mean it's been so long and now it's finally here alhamdulillah.
I'tikaaf is usually in the final 10 days of Ramadhan when you spend your time reading the Quran and learning about your deen. Men go to the Mosque and women usually stay at home in a segregated room to carry out I'tikaaf. So its basically to worship Allah azzawajal as a means of becoming closer to Him.

And that is wrong by all means.

Are you muslim? You know ISIS are causing fitna in Syria so stop being disingenuous with your arguments.

What do you imply with this?

Why are people even responding to this #hack person, they are obviously looking to rile people up. ANYWAY, Ramadan mubarak everyone  I would be grateful if people could direct me to any good resources they have found for duas? If that even sounds like a reasonable request :sigh:

Ramadan Mubarak!

Just a reminder, this thread exists for peaceful discussions in light of Islam. Sectarianism is not welcome in this thread and will be reported as such.

Sectarianism was already incited before me.

I think someone has mentioned this before to you, please avoid putting up posts which will no doubt cause issues for others and result in such debates and problems in this thread and from some peoples view are pushing certain political opinions on quite emotional matters in the Ummah.

That wasn't a fair assessment mate.

I'tikaaf that I know is spending time in the mosque in between asar and maghrib, or just being alone while getting closer to Allah - like how the prophet (sallallahu alaihi wassalam) and his wives used to do. Obviously we won't be setting tents up for this matter

Thanks for the explanation. I just called it the 'last 10 days ibadah' lol. Now I know the proper name for it. Let's do i'tikaaf and qiyamullail together then inshaAllah

Book of fasting

It was narrated from Sinan bin Sannah Al-Aslami, the Companion of the Prophet (ﷺ), that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:
“A grateful eater will have a reward like that of a patient fasting person.”

Wa Alaikum Salam Wa Rahmatullah Akhi

Alhumdulillah, all good. Working atm in finance hoping to apply for grad medicine. How's things with you, What have you been up to ?

Seems like all new faces have taken over the ISOC, none I can remember so far. Yup I remember Khodu and yusufu, Do they still post ? Only one I can remember is someperson, since she's the last person who quoted me, but I'm sure I'll be able to recognise more if I see the names again.

Alhamdulilah glad to hear. Yeh they do post now and then. Besides Iqbal007 I think we're the only oldies. Hmm strange world this isn't it? I'm hoping to do the same this year Inshallah. Currently working too. Applying this year round? I've yet to decide where I want to apply.

Hope fasting is going well.
