It's legit in that it's definitely going to happen.

However it's a commercial enterprise - unis and Student Unions have nothing to do with the organisation of it, although some attach their names to the event and absorb it into their schedule of freshers' events. Whilst prospective students get first dibs on tickets, they go on sale to the general public so it won't be an exclusively student-only bash. The website encourages you to bring mates from outside uni.
