Possibility of Clearing

So I'm having doubts about getting accepted into my accepted offers (discussed in another thread I created), and I'm pretty sure that I read in the paper that Exeter was offering my course in clearing (politics and international relations, preferably with a year abroad). So is it worth emailing Exeter early, just to inquire and pass along basic information so they know my name early and potentially increase my chance of getting a place in clearing? or would this have the opposite effect and show a lack of confidence in myself rather than initiative?

As I'm sure you can tell I tend to over think things quite a bit haha
