What's the difference with UMS and PUM?

Okay, so the Edexcel/OCR/etc boards calculate their marks in terms of UMS out of 100, whilst CIE does it as a Percentage Uniform Mark out of 100%.

So if let's say, one wanted to apply to Cambridge (or any other uni that places weightage on UMS) - will the CiE PUM and the UMS of other boards be considered the same thing?

I've heard that requirements for PUM are a bit lax compared to UMS since the scoring is tougher. Is this true?

If there is a huge difference between them then the unis will already know and take it into account (or if it's one they don't know they will do research). CIE is a well known exam board, even though it isn't as huge as the "big three", so they're not going to choose a scoring system that would massively disadvantage their students. Schools choose their own exam boards, so if one is known to be too hard schools wouldn't choose it.
