Few people ever want to take part in war, so what?
Youre also forgetting that when the homeland was threatened and then attacked that changed quite dramatically.

You do know that Americans made it to the continent through North Africa as well right?
Well, they obviously didn't or they wouldn't have lost. 'better' is subjective, it doesn't matter how elite your army is if you dont have the infrastructure to support it like the USA or USSR who could simply outbuild the Germans by many orders of magnitude.

Depends.
If the Germans won against the Soviets: It would have been possible, but there is also a reasonable chance of failure.
Germans still fighting the Soviets: US would have won
Germans never engaged against Soviets: Probably not
