How important was ideology for Mussolini?

I know must of the stuff, anyone like to comment something a bit special rather than just the typical answer.

My line of argument might be that his lack of ideology may have in fact been an ideology in itself

I've looked briefly at this in my Roman history paper I'm currently taking.

The Duce was very much into proclaiming the Roman past and using it tosupport his own regime. He proclaimed a restored Roman republic {although the actuality was anyhting but} and tried to match his glory to that of the past.

It's not strictly relevant but might be useful as an aside.
