Must "be on target for at least a 2:1 in your honours degree"

I've been looking at a number of industrial placements and a lot of them seem to mention that applicants must be on target for at least a 2:1 in your honours degree, what does this actually entail?
You uni students can be real stupid.

It means you'll be passing with 2:! or better.
This confused me terribly, especially for the first year!

I'm in my second year and I was told that it's just what you got in your previous year is your predicted grade. (At least for my uni this is the case).
