Can't advise you on the former qualification but in my honest opinion, FSMQ is a waste of time and effort.

We spent a year on it and it really made me feel like I could have gotten so much further, had I done Further Pure Mathematics.

. i know edexcel fp maths is much harder than fsmq. however, i chose fsmq because i had many resources to help me unlike fp maths. also, i have 3 months only to self study everything from scratch alongside other gcses therefore that was my best bet i guess.
