Thelfo, that think wasn't directed at you by the way. It was for the poster before you!

You were obviously with a completely different board! - I was with OCR. The grade boundaries are slightly different but I think the examiners look for the same sort of links. Don't worry too much about what you did/didn't include. There is nothing you can do about it now! I did that too but soon realised that they aren't looking for perfection. It's almost impossible to remember everything you wanted to put in. I can guarantee that most students will be kicking themselves for not having made a good point. You may not have ruined your chances of getting an A - anyway, a B is really good! I know how you feel though. I hate that feeling where you feel like you could have done so much better! No point in dwelling on it though

Hahaha, I was thinking 'well that's good advice but it's a little late to be telling me that now.'

I love Philosophy, I'm going to study it at Uni in October.
Anyone got any suggestions as to what books I could read to give me a head start? Thanks

At which uni are you going to read philosophy?

Anyway. Read:
THINK, Simon Blackburn
MEDITATIONS ON FIRST PHILOSOPHY, Descartes

Some classic articles are available online. Here's some interesting ones.

IS JUSTIFIED TRUE BELIEF KNOWLEDGE, Edmund Gettier
http://www.ditext.com/gettier/gettier.html

ALTERNATE POSSIBILITIES AND MORAL RESPONSIBILITY, Harry G. Frankfurt
http://www.ucl.ac.uk/~uctytho/dfwCompatFrankfurt.htm

HUME'S ENQUIRIES, Hume. I especially recommend section VIII.

wherever you move to for uni - make sure u save enough money - so u can make you uni home/town/city ur permanent resident.

if ur thinking of doing philosopy at uni - i cant see many job prospects in northampton - apart from teaching - but i doubt many schools in northampton offer philosophy .

Northampton uni teaches philosophy but I wouldn't apply there anyway. I don't think prospects are very good here but that is a bit of a generalisation really...I'm sure people make it in this town?! I don't want to be a teacher!! All that marking would drive me nutso

My philosophy college lecturer was an absolute legend. He used to drive us up the pub in his big red van and skip out halfway through the day to go surfing with one of the law lecturers. Teaching 16 - 18 year olds (though there was a 24 year old in my class) philosophy isn't quite as challenging as teaching thirteen year olds maths, for example.

He sounds like a really nice guy. I wish my teachers were like that  . Laus: I'm sure there will be successful people from Northampton!

Thelfo, I wish my philosophy teacher was like that! He sounds ace.

Thanks Brown, I sure hope so! I doubt I'll be living here in a few years time but if I do still have the misfortune I’ll do my best to be one of those 'successful' people! This is a huge generalisation though… Some Northamptonians are ace:smile:
francis crick was from northampton.
