If I remember correctly I got an email saying my portal had updated or my application was now being considered or something, basically I knew when my portal had updated. It was pending for a long time before that and only took two days of consideration before I got the offer. UCAS track was down at that time so I found out about the offer from email from UCL rather than UCAS track.
Just curious, seeing as you applied before October 15th, were/are you an Oxbridge candidate?

Maybe try ringing up if you haven't already? I rung them up and they updated track within half an hour, even though they told me it would take another week

Oh that's really early! Yes UCL is my first choice, and I know quite a few people who are applying, but no one has heard anything yet... I know they have the offer holder day March 8, so the decisions should be out by then...

Oh, ages. Can't remember exactly, as I applied for chemistry in 2011/2012, but I remember it being a fairly long wait from interview day to me receiving an offer. UCL is a bit notorious for taking very long to reply..
