If you're taking a gap year you don't need to get released - just withdraw from UCAS for this year round and reapply next year.

Ring your uni and ask to defer your entry til next year.
That way you don't need to worry about re-applying and they should hold your place for you

Yeah don't ask to get released; just ask them to defer your entry until next year. You might have to answer questions about what you propose to do on your gap year and stuff.
Then withdraw and reapply to different unis next year
then you need to phone up UCAS and withdraw. Then you can reapply in September.
PHONE UCAS and ask them to withdraw you.

Your firm wont mind so long as you let them know ASAP.
