Remark DISASTER!!!.... :S

Hey guys....

I got a really big problem and want to ask you guys if I should do this.... here goes from the start...

On results day, I got BBB and needed AAB to enter my university....

But since two subjects are a couple or marks off.. i sent off for a remark...

The results have come back and now I have AAB.....

Because the exam board has marked my papers incorrectly.... I did not get into uni this year... and forced to reapply...

One of the universities has given me an unconditional but for next years entry because my grades went up....(next year entry because this years is full).... This meant that I THINK I would have got in this year if they had marked it correctly... (I needed A in bio but still got B in bio so not fully met the conditions)

Do you think i can ask for a compensation from the exam board because they have literally wasted one year off my life.... and some sort of distress caused

Opinions welcome... good or bad

THanks Dan

No.

They have enough checks and things to prove that it was just an accident, and they didn't do it maliciously. You'd just be wasting your time.

Better still, why not bugger-off to the United States? They can't get enough of your sort over there.

And they might have only found u a few extra marks to get to the A grades simply because they felt generous. You should think yourself lucky they hadnt realised they'd marked you too high instead  a girl at my college sent hers back and got hers marked down lol so she was even further away from the A she thought she deserved.

You should just do something productive with your year out and maybe get some work experience or save up some money? Then it wont seem such a waste

do you not do a priority remark? if you did you would have got your remarks back by the 31st Aug and thus had to be allowed in this year. so is it an oversight on your part?

lol okok its not a disaster for you guys but it is for me lol....

I did not do any priority remark because The places were already allocated on results day and when I rung through to all the universities.... (including firm and insurance) they had all the places filled. To add to that it's £70 EACH module and I had quite a few number of papers remarked.

Don't get me wrong guys, I am thrilled I have now got better grades.. but I doubt they were 'generous'....

This summer I have sent 5 papers to be remarked... and ALL 5 have gone up ranging from 1 mark to 8 marks....

It's just that I didn't want to be taking a year out when I don't really wanna.. but I will make use of this year.... probably get some more work experience and also get a job....

But thanks guys...

the places were allocated yes, but had you paid the £70 and got the remarks back by the 31st you would have had to had been given the place this year as the conditions of your offer are that you meet them by the 31st August i assure. but thats done and gone now you can't change that.

make sure you dont waste the year
oh my goodness, this is the most pathetic thing i've read in a long time. i did my exams and i thought i deserve better than i got so i sent all my papers back and managed to scrape one measly mark more so i get the A i don't deserve now instead of being really happy that i can get onto a better course, i'm gonna whine about it..... get over it before they take your precious grades away....

I'd be a bit unhappy as well if I had to wait a whole year to do the course I wanted because of an examiners error. There's obviously nothing much you can do about it now though
I feel for you- that must have been really dissapointing. I would have definatley had a go lol.. its just i know some people that this has happened to and its hard when it happens.
Well.. you have year to do what you want and you dont have to worry about re-applying because you have already got your place!
Good luck

Bright star, If you read carefully.. I only asked for advice.. I didnt mean to 'whine'.

If it means 'one MEASLY mark' is the difference to a whole grade moving up, It's a big difference when Admissions tutors look at it...

BBB or AAB look better?

If the examiners marked it correctly in first place, I may have had a place in Uni this year. I now have a Unconditional for the same course i wanted to go to.... but in my insurance choice not firm (im very grateful and really happy I got it by the way....) If I did get these grades in first place, I may be in uni this year.

I'm sure If you was in my shoes.... at least you want is an apology from them right..... I got nothing from them... Im even having to pay for some papers that moved up marks but not overall grades.... having to shell out £70..... IMO aint very fair....

Bright star.... For a medic student, You aint very sympathetic and erm.. very rude aint you....?
You have to look on it in a positive light - you never know, this year might turn out to be the best of your life! You have the opportunity to do lots of things - travel, learn new languages and earn some money so you don't have to worry as much next year when most people will be relying on loans!!

Good luck - I hope you have a good year.

By the way, no exam board charges £70 per module!! Its always £40-£50.
My friend did some sort of re-mark which was fifty pounds and she got it back within a few days and she went up 39 marks, however there is nothing the exam board i can do, i don't think.
Just make the most of your gap year and at least you won't have the pressure of getting the grades as you have unconditional offers!
I wouldn't worry about it. Although it's not the most ideal situation, like others have said you may gain a lot from your gap year. To be honest, I haven't heard of many people that regret taking a gap year!

Why doesnt he deserve his A? hes probably been working very hard to get his place, and spent alot of money and time to tavel for interviews, but got messed up by a stupid lazy examiner who cant do his job properly.

they have over 6 weeks to mark the papers, an accident shouldnt have happened.
