Okay I was being harsh, Ocean Waves isn't bad but was probably my least favourite. Only yesterday is better and was more enjoyable, think I preferred it to Ponyo and Earthsea.

tbh I like them all except MNTY so far but there are some standout films from Ghibli imo (the ones with 10 plus votes) they are just brilliant, the others are good but they don't meet the standard of the 'Big 7'
I LOVE them. Seen all of them though, really wish they were more. I always seem to be comparing their quality with other animes I watch, and haven't found many that i'd rank as highly! I'd say my least favorite was ocean waves. Best, hmm...very hard to choose one I loved the most! The reason I find them so great is the amazing story lines, beautiful animation, and most magical music. I have the soundtracks to most of them! Howls moving castle merry-go-round of life is my favourite soundtrack
I think I've changed my mind about the one I love most. It used to be Spirited Away but Laputa made a big dent on me. After tomorrow I shall let you know how I rate Poppy Hill.
Have to say, of all the movies which have low vote counts in the poll, its Porco Rosso that takes me by surprise. Only Yesterday and Whisper of the Heart are slow, My Neighbours the Yamadas is so different from the others, and I assume that a lot of Pom Poko is lost on Western audiences (I certainly didn't know much about tanuki when I first watched it). Earthsea... the less said about that, the better. But Porco Rosso only having four votes is a shame (even if I voted Nausicaa, myself).

I do think that is shocking tbh I do love that film, maybe some people who voted haven't watched the film :s-smilie:
Porco Rosso is one of the ones I love. So much fun to be had in that film, plus it sits in a somewhat historical context

I've found the stuido ghibli films to be great curveballs in that awkward relationship scenario where you two are together and wanting to watch a film yet neither of you can decide.

My last girlfriend gave me that typical weird look when I suggested one, but she loved it and then wanted to watch em all!

Howl's Moving Castle
Spirited Away
Castle in the Sky
Princess Mononokee
Nausicaa

are the 5 best!

Your a lucky chappy, mine watched part of Princess Mononoke and all of Howl's and didn't think much to it. Although she's decided to voluntarily escort me to poppy hill. Although the fact that food after was involved may have sweetened the deal.
Poppy Hill is in- Was glad I went to watch it, was a good and enjoyable film that even the other half enjoyed. Watched it in dubs unfortunately but even they weren't too bad to be fair. It kicks the crap out of Earthsea and Ponyo and Arrietty in my opinion, which are all recent films so perhaps Studio Ghibli is on the rise after its recent slump.
A quick question... Have any of the SG staff got links to Archaeology? As it gets mentioned in My Neighbor Totoro (Dad is one) and in Poppy Hill (School club). Random I know but its bugging me
Ihave Arietty's theme in my head  I don't have an opinion whether sub is better than dub because there are merits to both but the dub for Arietty is awful, I fell asleep halfway through because I had very little sleep and then I woke up at the credits and now the song is in my bloody head

The UK English dub, I presume? Most of the other Ghibli films got dubbed by Walt Disney studios, as did Arrietty in the USA, and they usually do a good job. But (presumably because The Borrowers books are English), it got a localised dub over here.

yeah the UK dub :nooo: Tbh I bet the Disney dub isn't any better they have Bridget Medler as Arrietty and she isn't a great actress.

The thing is saoirse ronan can be a good actress when she wants but she was crap and don't get me started on the guy who voiced Shō I've seen more emotion from a wooden block.

I thought I'd give it a go, since it's not every day you get British voices in an anime dub, but I promptly switched over to the original Japanese with subs about 1-2 minutes in. Sho was the only person who'd said anything in that time, but I agree, there was no emotion at all.
Whispers of the Heart tomorrow :excited:

Also found this and I fell in love

I vividly remember Porco Rosso being my first at my high school's nerdy animation club, and it has my kudos for that, but i'm also drawn to Princess Mononoke

I'm gonna go with Princess Mononoke!
