I would recommend Brian Creamer House.
Why?
Reply 43
Because it's self-catered but ALSO has a halls layout so is more social than the apartment system.
So the catered halls aren't too hot?
Reply 45
No, they're good too but I was answering Je$$isca's question and she asked about self-catered.

Had my last January exam yesterday and promptly submitted my King's accommodation application online. I think I might have been a bit hasty but I was pretty happy with my preferences, based on a. Location (lectures at Waterloo/Strand) b. facilities c. social life d. cost

1. SSA (pure convenience for Waterloo, and gym)
2. Hughes Parry (Intercol.)
3. Commonwealth Hall (Intercol.)
4. Connaught Hall (Intercol.)
5. Brian Creamer - seems to have decent reviews
6. Great Dover - forgotten why
7. Wolfson - has a bar and fitness room, I like, but mixed reviews
8. KCH - great socially but too far out
9. Nutford House (Intercol.) - quite separate from the other residences
10. International Hall (Intercol.) - too dear
11. Canterbury Hall (Intercol.) - too dear
12. Hampstead Campus - heard great things but too far and close to home lol

13, 14, 15 - College Hall, the Rectory, Lillian Penson Hall - dunno why I had to rate these despite them either not being mentioned in the My Digs booklet or being specified as Postgrad/Mature Undergrad accomm.

Good choice. I'll have ranked Internationa lHall higher though as it is clearly the best of all the intercollegiate, save College Hall whhich is just crazyt expensive. Try and remeber that the gyms for Wolfson and SSA require you to pay extra cash as they are student union gyms and not accomodation gyms

Cool, I've checked out the gym prices and I'm gonna pay the normal rates until xmas - after which they bring out new year promotion deals.

International hall looked really nice and I heard good things about it but it just seemed a little pricey.

When can we actually go and see the halls? Are there specific open days or something?

I'm pretty sure you can't see the halls at all. There are still people living in them, and you won't get much of an idea of what they're like unless you can see the rooms. (Of course, it wouldn't surprise me if they just let random strangers into our rooms...)

Does anyone know the name of the halls near the waterloo campus..the one for biomed, nursing and pharmacy?

Are the halls good there too?

Stamford Street. They're the best location but nothing special inside. They have en-suite but the apartment system is kind of annoying. Also, they don't get cleaned for you, you're meant to do it yourself.

I agree with Zoecb, the apartment system is really unsociable, but I couldn't be without my ensuite. I'm lucky that most of us in my flat are pretty tidy, otherwise it would be disgusting. Most places have a cleaner that comes in and does the kitchen and other communal areas.

Thanks guys, I really liked the halls as they are so near to the campus, but its a bit stupid that they don't have a cleaner...

And why are they so unsociable?
It's because you are in a confined apartment with only 3-7 other people. If you are in traditional halls, you are on a corridor with loads. I think it's the fact there is a locked door between all the apartments, so you can't really go knocking on other people's doors (maybe in fresher's week, the rest of the time you'd just look weird lol).
Oh, and there's nowhere to socialise, like the other halls have common rooms or their own bars, SSA has nothing like that.

You are right deepsix: I've seen the page on the KCL website that which says all the open day dates on them. It looks like you apply then you look.

Do I have to go to those halls, or can I go to the ones further away??
Do you have to go to what halls? Stamford Street? No, you apply wherever you want, its completely random; nothing to do with what campus you are studying at, just luck
not many people have mentioned or talked about GDSA....whats that like??
