Hi Jose,

So you have a lot of options to choose from! There are 6 accommodations close to the Uni and 2 a bit far away(30 mins bus ride). It really depends on what you like in your accommodation.. Why don't you pop on this website http://www.hudlets.su/halls-studios/, they've got a list of everything you can choose from. Most first years go into student halls. If you want you can also book accommodation tours (always a good shout) or send them an email or give them a call. HudLets is by the Students' Union so they give the best impartial advice for the students

Hi @Jose97
We're glad you're looking at the University of Huddersfield.
We don't offer accommodation directly through the university, however DIGS Student are our prefered, reccommended and approved accommodation provider. They have Storthes Hall Park which are shared flats and Ashenhurst Houses which are more like a shared house. There's more info here: digstudent.co.uk/the-digs-experience/
Ashenhurt Houses is around a 15 minute walk from campus. And you can have a look around them both on an Applicant Day. Are you planning on coming to an Applicant Day?
There are also other options available through the Students Union.
If you have any more questions, please feel free to email us at [email protected]

Which accommodation would people suggest out of Snow Island, Firth Point, Little Aspley House or Storthes Hall? I'm hoping to come and study in Huddersfield (Computing BsC) this September and I was wondering which one would be best for someone who likes their time alone but also doesn't like to be lonely all the time, so somewhere where I can meet a load of people inside the accommodation? Also somewhere close to the Uni and Accommodation. Not the party or alcohol type at all, and have a few friends from my previous school who are going to Huddersfield and have said Storthes Hall is a very party based and 20 minutes from the Uni with a bus running every 30 minutes which kinda put me off. So I think it's between the first 3 choices.

Also, would it be hard for someone with Aspergers/social anxiety to make friends/meet new people at this Uni besides in societies/lessons? I find it hard to talk to new people and I'm kinda worried I won't find a social life during my time at Uni (I haven't been to the cinema with friends since June and before that was 4 years ago.)

Anyone able to help? Thanks in advance!
One of my friends at college who (possibly) had Aspergers/social anxiety ended up starting a very large UK internet sales place, there are benefits as well as mild isolation! I think he now has a yacht, or two. You ought to mention your potential spectrum to the college when you get there, they probably will help you!
Buy a nice digital/FM radio, listen to local not national radio, you'll hear all kinds of things to join in. BBC Radio Leeds, Hallam Radio etc, participate in group activities at college, do a sport that you've never thought of.

Good question about the halls. Share with 3 others, if possible (4-person flats). Bigger flats can get very messy and very noisy. I'd recommend being able to walk to college, if at all possible. I saw a Kingsmill something that was 7 minutes away, otherwise Snow Island (6 mins), Firth Point would be my best guess (smaller, closer = better!)

U o Hudders' has a TEF Gold, which is great. It seems to have about 40 CompSci students, 50 accountants, 50 business, half that number of Biologists, medium loads of Drama students, not that many English students, hundreds of Nurses (very positive humans). Which accomodation do the nurses choose? - they typically have a much longer time in weeks on campus than ICT/Engineering courses - but they would certainly have a sensible social life and are worth getting to know as caring sharing people. You will really enjoy your time in Huddersfield. good luck and reserve the acomm ASAP.
Hi, which of the halls is more affordable and also conducive? I read bad reviews about both halls. Please be sincere and tell me which is better

Little Aspley is part of iQ. So you'll get fobs to Aspley and Castings - this means you can use their gyms, cinemas, the hub... They are also mainly smaller flats and is more 2nd and 3rd year students from what I've heard so may be quieter. The only reason I chose it over the other properties was because I need a parking space (all of which are sold out now I think). But also being less than a 10 min walk from the uni is helpful too.

The tenancy agreements of the Host (previously Unite) accommodation seemed a bit ridiculous although that may just be me.

I didn't really like Storthes when I went. Sure the Venue is good and you can always get the bus or a taxi there. Plus, for someone who isn't taking a car, being limited to one shop may be an issue. It's very hilly and there's lots of steps so that may put people off as well (aka long walk to and from laundry room and gym).

I'm hoping to go Huds to study international politics, currently looking for accommodation with an en suite and car park because I'm planning to transfer my job there too.

Any recommendations?

Are you looking at specific student accomadation? If so expect to pay more for ensuite and parking (around the town centre this is quite limited!) Private renting is very affordable in Huddersfield also.

Hello @Onojobi Rachel
How are you?
Firstly we should say that we don't offer accommodation directly from the University of Huddersfield - we do that through DIGS Student who are a privately owned company specialising in affordable accommodation with a fantastic student experience.
DIGS runs Storthes Hall Park which are all en-suite shared flats and they also offer parking.
You can find out more info here: https://digstudent.co.uk/storthes-hall-park/
If you have any additional questions, please just let me know.

Hi Wazidul, I have a 7 bedroom property that is still vacant for next year. The property is all en suite and has a place to park you car for free. Paste the link into your search engine and it will show you the photos etc. We offer £100 off your first months rent and a £20 amazon gift card on arrival. Good luck in your search though if we're not what you're looking for. Thanks, Liam. 07919992533
So I'm applying for Huddersfield in September to start studying next year, and as of now it's my first choice and has been for a while. I've looked at Storthes online and do not want to go there, the reviews aren't that great and I just don't think it would suit me. I'm mainly thinking about a classic en-suite at Firth Point, but am wondering why do people pick Snow Island over Firth point when Firth has the same facilities in the rooms and is less expensive?
Would anyone recommend Firth Point?
Thanks

Snow island has a better social aspect to it, its where most of the events are held with host students, has more rooms and a larger common room and courtyard.
The rooms and kitchen are more or less the same its just what you prefer. I stayed with snow island this year and have booked again for next year.

Hi,
From what Ihave read and seen about Storthes, I seriously would not recommend it. Its a thirty minute bus ride from the uni, IQ accomodation, Host and Unite is about a 5 minute walk, they rarely have clean running water, theres rats, and its built on an old hospital ground. If I was you I would just stick with private accomodation like im doing.
Hi.Just to join in! So I spent my first and second year at storthes hall (seconds because I applied late). I would recommend it for first years along with ones near the uni such as IQ and firth point, I would go with the ones closer to town ,storthes is good if you want to be social but there's a lot more to do around the town and its much easier to access.
To recommend somewhere for full time students looking for a studio flat, have a look at vanilla lettings and The Standard House flats they have available. I dont think theyre associated with DIGS but they also have shared flats but for 1 person, big kitchens and an open area with an en-suite. Prices between £100-150 or higher depending which one you choose but it's well worth checking out. Good luck!

Hi, I'm going into my second year and also looking for somewhere to stay but in terms of aspergers: I'm also on the spectrum and there's an autism get-together sort of thing during lunch one day a week in uni. Could be pretty helpful!
