I couldn't really imagine going into halls because I'd hate that whole timetable eating thing...I go to boarding school so I'm kind of tired of that, I want to eat what I want when I want..!! I don't think it would be that much less sociable in self catered houses.

I know where Fleet is, I'm in Alton near Basingstoke

Do you go to LWC? (Saw on your profile:smile: )
Thats pretty close to fleet:biggrin:

I live in Fleet but I go to a 6th form in Reading (Berkshire). I take the train there and back everyday
What have you applied for? Is UCL your firm?

Wow to Reading everyday??? Bet you will be glad to go to London in sept and not have to do that....

I applied for Geography BA, and yep it's my firm - what about you?

harmonyy.
I think I have finally decided! I am going to move out the first year.
What did you guys put as your single most important factor?

I put shared flats
I think I may have put a fridge because I wanted to get Astor College, although I feel like I might regret that! Oh well..

I was going to put down a single room

law applicants which halls did you guys put down as your top choices? it'd be fun to have all of us in somewhat close proximity to each other heh (as if seeing each other in class all day isnt enough already)

i really hope i get schafer or astor

don't really want one of the ones far out or arthur tat or catered! not picky at all...
Why not AT? It seemed really nice when I visited! Or do you just not want to share a room?
Reply 1252
no I think I'll end up sharing a room and I don't think it bothers me too much except there are certain times when I want to be on my own so that could be awkward (and no, I'm not just talking about sex lol)

It does seem nice in terms of quality but I duno it just doesn't seem that sociable and the layout doesn't seem conducive to socialising really either because you seem to be restricted to like the 17 (?) people in the house. Not that astor and schafer are set out in a particularly good way but they seem to have more of a 'fun' reputation. I don't really mind how nice the surroundings i'm in are as long as it's quite fun and I have chance to meet people.

I'll just get stuck with whatever though, I'm either going to like it or I'm not I don't think the accomodation is going to be the deciding factor, more the people I'm staying with
I don't think thr layout is quite as bad as it sounds. I thought it sounded pretty antisocial at first but then I realised it's just like being in a really big flat. I think before I'd thought of it as a house and everyone stayed in their rooms, but it really is just basically a flat of 15 people instead of a flat of three or four in Schafer.

But like you said, it's the people that matter not the place. I know people who live in flats and people who live in corridors, and it doesn't seem to have made a difference to whether or not they have fun.

I think I'd trade a slightly less party house for the proximity to UCL, and I think I'd appreciate going to parties in other halls and being able to leave when I got sick of it! I've been to too many parties where you start to lose enthusiasm by about 5, but someone else always wants to go on longer and you can't sleep! Living in a slightly quieter hall seems to be the solution to that!

yup, would be fun.
I asked them to put me in Schaefer.
I don't know about the intercollegiate halls anymore... I think I put Connaught Hall as my first and Nutford as my second.

Everyone is talking about self-catered.

But which is better between Ifor Evans and Ramsay?

Peace x

I've stayed with friends, numerous times, at both. I would definitely say Ramsay, Ifor is sooo grotty, the rooms are tiny and it's missions away from UCL.

It is quite a bit cheaper though, but the food is pretty dull, and you have to pay for it regardless of whether you eat it or not - this last point is of course true for Ramsay as well.

Anyone got the link for the accomodation application. Got an email of the department but I couldn't find the actual form from that link. Thanks.

I looked everywhere for on online and couldn't find one - maybe they only send them out by post? I would email them..
I can't get onto the website to check atm (I think they must be doing maintainance or something cos I can't get at my emails either) but from memory, somewhere down the left hand side of the main accommodation website there's a link to an online version of the accomodation brochure. The application form is the middle pages I think, and there's a postcard at the end that you can send with it so they can return it to acknowledge they've received it.
