Best University of Edinburgh Accommodation??

Poll

Out of these, which do you prefer to have went to or want to go to??

Apart from Salisbury Court, which university accommodation is preferred the most for people? Please share your experiences or suggestions. In addition, please inform me of the ones I should be totally away from (if any).

I am an international, so I am not familiar with Edinburgh at all. I would appreciate any recommendations and advice. Thanks!

I quite liked Murano myself, but it's in Leith so quite a distance from the uni. You'd definitely need to factor in the cost of a 9-month Rideacard.

Hi  Could you please tell me a bit more about Murano? Like how it is socially, how easy it is to commute to and from it (e.g. to the city centre, central campus), and what the area is like?

I didn't live in Murano, but I have a friend who did and I've been a few times.

It's easy to commute from - there's a bus stop about 30 seconds away opposite the Sainsbury's Local.

I Lived in Murano. It's a bit of a trek, so you definitely need to have the bus pass. I personally wasn't a fan as it meant I had to factor in commuting time a lot- especially when I has sports training (40 minutes on the bus, and the bus isn't that frequent on the return leg).

I found socialising harder than it would have been in some other halls (though this is definitely an isolated situation)- I had a 5 person flat but two people didn't turn up so it ended up being a 3 person but 1 person never left their room...

Positives- Ensuite, Sainsbury and a lot of food option- note the lack of late night food options in Edinburgh generally- there's a really good late night bakery I've been to post night outs many times- and it's very good value- was spending like 2.80 for two pies and a sausage roll.
Wow, many are voting for pollock halls and one of the far ones like brae house and murano. I got Darroch Court, but I don't know if it's good :/.

Thank you so much! It does sound alright, but do you think it's worth transferring to a different hall given the opportunity?

Depends what the alternative is and what you're looking for in accommodation. Murano was alright- I personally would have tried moving somewhere more convenient as I was always out and about meaning there were times I didn't get to eat till 9-10 pm, and would have been willing to sacrifice the ensuite for it.

Hey I'm looking at catered accommodations, I've only been able to find pollock halls? If so do you then have to apply to the the houses ( e.g. Baird house)?
Can't vote for hermits croft 😢
Don't think it's probably the best place but it's under rated. So close to Edinburgh uni and the Lidl/Tescos. Like 5 minutes walk to the uni gym / sporrs centre so good if sports. Futher away from kings building though.Shared bathrooms though but you only share with 4 other people. Also has a cat!!!!

Hey! I'm sorry I haven't included it as an option. I really don't know how to edit the polls and add extra options.
Thank you to all who have responded! I've eventually got Darroch Court (which no one voted for lol) over the ones that were voted the most like Salisbury Court. My only worry is that it's in Cowgate street which means sleepless nights from the noise outside although I hope that won't be the case.

Cowgate is busy, but I'm sure you'll get used to it

Good luck with your studies

Its okay forgiven! Maybe hermit croft isnt popular anymore since its quite old compared to the newer ones youve listed so probably not popular.

You will be fine just bring earplugs? and hey, since its near to pubs and clubs that means you dot have to spend money on taxis back home compared to if you stayed at somewhere like haddington place!

Hiya! I know I'm a little late but I was wondering whether you could tell me what your experience of Darroch Court was like? I am looking for accommodation in the centre (Kincaids, Blackfriar street, Darroch court etc.)

Hi, I'm starting at the Uni of Edinburgh in September and am currently choosing my 5 accommodation preferences. I am going for a single self-catered room and love Salisbury and Kincaid but I'm not too sure what the others are like. My other preferences are Mylnes, Warrender Park and Crescent, Sciennes and College Wynd. Does anyone have any advice (horror stories, criticism or positive experiences at any of these, I'd love to know ASAP so that I can put the nicest ones down. Thank you!
