Courses for becoming an engineer in utilities and engineering?

I'm a mature guy (i.e not a school leaver) who is interested in pursuing starter qualifications in utilities and engineering for work particularly for a water company/DNO. What sort of courses would be best to start? I don't work in the field and am somewhat skeptical about the results google is giving. What courses should I be looking for as entry level into the field. Thank you
Depends if you mean professional engineer or skilled craft and trade engineer. University (or hnc/hnd level courses + experience) for the former, college/apprenticeship for the latter.
