I adore the tacky fluorescent nature of D&G.

Meh, each to their own. Just don't expect them to be good value or have particularly good build quality. A case of style over substance

My D&G Medicine Man is my favourite watch, although it's a day to day watch. I have more sophisticated designs for evening! (It's meant for a male, but I am female)

I don't know if I'm allowed to link, but here it is anyway!

What is your opinion of Dior watches?
I prefer functional. For me, the main consideration is to tell the time accurately. The second is to look good. If it was mainly an affectation I'd probably go for a Citizen Skyhawk, but I'm not ready to spend that much on a watch. Which is why I went for the Casio Waveceptor. Always precise to the second.

Someone I know went and spent £600 on a Gucci watch. It's quartz, looks fairly ordinary, has no extra dials, you could probably get a similar looking watch in Tenerife for €5. But this one has "Gucci" written on it.

Eesh, that's very expensive. If I was choosing a watch on that kind of budget, I'd go for a Rotary skeleton watch. Has a similar visual wow factor, plus that particular model is automatic I think. All for £150. As for Dior, I think they're overpriced. They blunder right into Omega, Rolex and Cartier territory, and, as far as I'm concerned, those three brands have better looking ladies' watches, and will be mechanically superior. For example, check this Cartier Tank Francaise. Beautiful watch, comes in around the £2000 mark

That is one classy watch. As is the Rotary skeleton. They're probably a bit sophisticated for the likes me... I don't think I could spend £2000 on a watch either. My Medicine Man is the only watch I've ever owned that I enjoy wearing, I only wear my others to please my 'rents, as they bought them for me!
A serious lack of love for Chopard on this forum.

A watch can never be too sophisticated, but you don't need to have thousands of pounds lying around to have a really nice watch. As a general rule of thumb, stick with a brand well known for making watches, and you can't go far wrong with a Swiss brand. I always say that Rotaries are the best bet for people who want a good quality watch on a low budget. In fact, there is a Rotary which is an identical copy of the Tank Francaise...absolute bargain if you ask me hehe.
Rotary for me. I have a rotary I got when I was 16. I will be 19 on tuesday, and it has never even needed a battery change. swiss movement, stainless steel construction w/ titanium plated bracelet, carbon fibre dial, sapphire crystal and dolphin standard water resistant to 200m.

for your money, I would say:

Rotary,
Seiko
tissot.

Get a Seiko.

Or perhaps a Vostok Europe K-3 Submariner (which is on my list to get next). Depends what you want from a watch though. None of mine have batteries...

i looked through a few sites, and i seem to like leather watches with a rectangular clock shape thingy (you know what i mean lol).

which brands would be good/specialises in nice leather watches with rectangular shape? i looked through a few brands but it seems it is not as common as a metal ones.

cheers again!

They're commonly fashion watches, you won't find many and you'll probaly end up with a Fossil.

Having had a mooch around the local shopping centre today, by far the best brands for the £100-£200 mark are Rotary, Seiko and Citizen. Rotary, I've already talked about to death, Seiko are apparently reliable, and have plenty of good looking chronographs (the Jenson Button Honda F1 model is pretty nice). Citizen have the Ecodrive system, which is a great innovation which effectively gets rid of the need for a battery without having to fork out for an automatic watch. Effectively has a solar panel on the dial. On the downside, the bracelets seem a little flimsy....but then again, that's just personal preference.
A guy I know has a lovely rectangular-face watch with leather strap from Folli Follie.

After a Tank watch then. Cartier are the Kings of the Tank dress watch, but I believe Rotary do some. There's certainly this one, but it is gold plated, so that will push the price up. As well as this, there is also their Revelation model: rectangular faced, but its two sided and reversible. It has two movements inside, so each side can be set to a different time. A friend of mine has this model, and its a real looker. My advice would be to go to your local jewellers and try a few on...I personally find tank watches really uncomfortable, so its always a good idea to see what they feel like on the wrist.
