Female bike society would be good!!

Re bike pants -

Because I've done many many many miles on my bike (and a Unicycle- and after 100 miles on a unicycle, you wanna make sure your shorts are damn well good, cos those seats are damn well uncomfy!!!)

I ALWAYS try to get Castelli when I get new shorts- But this is my personall preference and I am happy to eat rice for a few weeks as I can't afford any food ;~)

So bike shorts on a budget really depend on you! once you've found a pair you really like then I'd try and stay with that brand.

You can pick up Altura and Endura shorts reasonably cheap. But it's your bum and your parts that you're protecting- so the more money you can put in the better. This time of year is FAB for winter leggings ( double duch I know, you want summer kit! ) but shops are selling winter kit cheap right now.

DHB Are annoyingly also my other favourite pair of cycling shorts. I have the bibs, and for £70 I think I payed last year they're still fighting fit after more than 8000 miles!! There are some on sale on Wiggle at the moment for under £30 which is a bargain. But with shorts it's all personal preference, and what I like you might not like.

Also, invest in a good chamois cream like butt butter or similar. Seriously - makes all the difference on long rides
http://www.wiggle.co.uk/dhb-womens-aeron-race-cycling-bib-short/ Summer shorts - £50

http://www.wiggle.co.uk/dhb-ladies-vaeon-roubaix-pro-padded-bib-short/ Winter shorts - £32

http://www.wiggle.co.uk/dhb-womens-aeron-cycling-bib-short/ Medium distance cycling shorts ( Anything up to 70-80 mile rides would be comfy) £30

http://www.wiggle.co.uk/altura-womens-curve-stretch-shorts/ Altura shorts - £16 but won't be very comfy after about 30 miles!!!
Just about to order a couple of jerseys from Wiggle - do y'all reckon I need a long sleeve one or can I just layer long sleeve tops under a s/s one at this time of year?

These are what I have in my basket currently:

http://www.wiggle.co.uk/dhb-womens-active-long-sleeve-cycling-jersey/
http://www.wiggle.co.uk/dhb-womens-active-short-sleeve-cycling-jersey/
Thanks I'm going for 100 miles in May and have been given most of my kit but I think it's probably time to invest in some good clothes

I only own one long sleeve jersey and that's my MTB club jersey. This time of year I'd usually invest in some arm warmers to wear. You can take off if you get too warm and put in back pockets, but if finances don't allow then I'd go for a long sleeve one, just so on the colder days you don't freeze!!!

Wiggle have some lovely arm warmers

100miles sounds fun!!! hope all goes well!!! Make sure you have plenty of food for the journey (jelly babies, gels, flapjacks, something to keep your energy high) Plenty of water and good shorts and you'll love it

The arm warmers look great, I would just have no idea where to start with sizing. I think I'll get all three jerseys, since the l/s one is cheaper than a pair of arm warmers!
I'm a size 10/12 in tops, depending on brand. Medium for castelli and I wear small mans arm warmers and medium womens

if you ever order anything Italian, always go a size up lol, Castelli make me feel fat

No, but they're one of the few places that sell a pair of proper cycling shorts with a chamois in that'll fit me at a price I can afford. (I'm out the upper end of the size range of most cycling brands, too bootylicious)

Loool! I see, that sucks. I guess it's supply and demand, unfortunately.

Yep, plus the only reason I need that size is because I haven't been doing enough cycling! There's a pretty good reason why there's not much large-size cycle clothing around, hehe.

If that was for me - I'll be out of this size and into smaller ones in a couple of months, so I'm not spending any more than I have to - if the £12.99 ones from Muddyfox work, then they'll be fine!

Sports beans?! No, are they good?!

They're a really nice change to the usual gels and bars being Jelly Beans
They are effective but not as effective as gels

I've recently been loving the Torq ones. What's your gel brand?

OHHH!!!

Sounds good haha. But in principal - I only shop online when I really need to. IE my boyfriend can't get it or non of my other local shops can.

My boyfriend has recently opened a new bike shop. I hate online retailers sometimes. half the overhead prices means they can charge less and steal all the business. However, Chainreaction isn't going to fix your bike if it goes wrong

Do we get a discount at the shop ??

I feel some new DuraAce wheels

haha!!! We could probably do some good deals!! However, Shimano stuff ATM is a no go - Maddison won't deal with us until we've moved into our retail premises. Hopefully will all go ahead soon!!

American Classic wheels are BY FAR my favorite wheels atm :P I'm training on one set, got a nice set for hilly races and "borrow" my boyfriends hed wheels for TTs

The EVO is the best bike ever created INHO. I'm currently building one from a 2014 Team Edition green and black frame. Gone for Sram red 11 speed, A half decent set of wheels for training weighing in at 1340 grams, and decent wheels for racing. Going to have to add in a power meter to add some weight for races, this beauty is going to be under the UCI limit of 6.8kg

I've tried my friends with the RED22 and its just an amazing group.
Got to make sure you remove the inner tube nuts and dust caps - marginal gains

YIPPIE!!! Just had news that my new Headset is finally on it's way! only been waiting for supplier to get it in for 4 and a half weeks

Hehe, yeah marginal gains lol, I'm a climber at heart so weight matters to me, if only I could shift 2/3kg off my weight

I work for high 5 a few times and I can recommend the gels and isogels if you're not worried about a bit of added weight (apple and bannana gels and the summer fruits isogels) 23 g of carbs per gel so pretty good nutrition wise as well. Also caramel sports bars from high 5 if you're looking for something solid are absolutely delicious!!

Unless you're actually riding UCI sanctioned races then I wouldn't worry about hitting 6.8kg.

Where will your boyfriends shop be based?
