Heriot-Watt
Currently hold an offer to study Computer Science at HW, does anyone recommend the university or have any insight to what it is like to study there?
I’m wondering:
what’s the reputation of the university like?
Graduate prospects?
Day-to-day life at the uni?
(The reason I’m asking this is because I’m a RUK student any haven’t heard of anyone go to HW)

Congratulations on your offer! Heriot-Watt is a great place to study and the Computer Science department is very strong. HWU started out (200 years ago next year!) as an engineering college and there definitely is still a strong leaning across the university towards apply theory to the real world and learning useful skills. We have some great connections with industry and I think the balance between theory and practice on our CompSci courses means graduates can hit the ground running when they start work. Plus we have some amazing facilities - check out the GRID building (https://www.hw.ac.uk/uk/edinburgh/grid.htm) - the building itself is stunning and the equipment is great - big dual screen monitors and powerful machines.
I actually moved up from London and it was honestly the best decision I ever made. Edinburgh/Scotland is such a welcoming place and there are people from all over the world here so you don't feel like an outsider at all. So many of my RUK friends have stayed in Edinburgh after graduating because they love it so much here. HWU itself is a very friendly and welcoming community too. We have a really nice mix of Scottish, RUK and international students.
HWU is all based on the one (pretty huge!) campus so everything is in one place and that definitely helps it feel more welcoming and inclusive. The sports facilities are literally world class (https://oriamscotland.com/) and we have loads of societies, music and events going on too.
HWU also offers a fee reduction for RUK students so 4 years studying with us costs exactly the same as 3 years at an RUK uni which is a huge bonus.
