Is it as truly awful as it's meant to be?

I didn't get to have a great look round on open day but everything I've read has given me the impression its perfectly fine. If I am accepted I hope to spend my year at the Strand campus, its in a good position on the south bank and most rooms have en-suite and internet, which would do me just fine.

The Strand campus has accommodation? Are you sure? I was looking at the accommodation info they sent me and i didn't see anything at the Strand Campus.

You are 100% right. I am tired and talking crap. I went to visit the Strand campus for philosophy/ war studies open day, but the accomodation is on Stamford Street. Thanks for pointing out my stupidity

Edit: to make up for my mistake HERE is the web page for the appartments. They don't look that terrible, do they?

Hey, no problem
I'm feeling like that at the moment!

If Kings is my firm choice, then i'd want the Stamford Street apartments as well.

The apartments do look nice, but I don't think I could be arsed cooking. I'd probably end up poisoning myself if I did anyway.

I've heard the halls are a bit nasty. I suppose I'll just have to see for myself one day! I'm not even fussy anyway, so I don't know why I care...I don't really want to share a room, though. Ahh, decisions.

Is that an intercollegiate hall?
I don't know if i'd prefer the KCL or intercollegiate halls...
Reply 11
Yeah, it is. The main reason I like the intercollegiate halls is that they're more central, and nearer to the Strand place where I'd be having lectures etc. The KCL halls seem to be further away.

What have you applied for?
Reply 12
The inter-college halls seem much better and closer to the Strand campus but they are sooo expensive, and why dont KCL have its own halls in Central London like UCL :frown:

Is anybody else kind of scared (probably a bit too strong a word, but you know) about the expense of studying in London? I'm actually considering deferring entry and working for a year to get a bit of money in the bank beforehand!

Ermm...Great Dover St, Stamford St, Wolfson House and Brian Creamer House are all centrally located. All within 15 minute walk from Waterloo.

Stamford St and Brian Creamer House (and maybe Gt Dover St and Wolfson House) are much nearer to the Strand than any of the intercollegiate halls are.

But isn't Stamford St the apartments? Anyway, I also like the intercollegiate aspect of the intercollegiate halls too

Where would you recommend, kingslaw?

Yeah they are the apartments. Sorry, I didn't know you were trying to avoid them.

My own recommendation would be where I am at the moment, Brian Creamer House:

-Its the cheapest central London location (or was last year anyway). -However, for a central location, it doesn't feel quite as dirty as maybe Stamford St and Wolfson House does, as there is a decent sized park just behind us, as well as the grounds of Lambeth Palace.
-Its also in decent proximity to Waterloo and Strand campuses, being a 15 minute walk to the former, and 25 minute walk to the latter.
-With only 70 people in it, its a quite a nice size. Not too big that you'll just get constant noise so you can't work, but not so small that there's nothing to do.
-As to get back from the Strand, Waterloo, or any part of central London you only need to walk along busy, main roads, it feels quite safe.
-Bigger rooms than most places.

However, there are disadvantages:

-Hardly any freezer/fridge space (12 people to one normal sized fridge freezer doesnt always work!).
-Sometimes a lack of 'atmospere' in the local area. Being so close to the centre, there seems to be a lack vibrance around our bit of North Lambeth, as everyone goes and does their shopping and socialising in the centre, and not in North Lambeth itself. There is a small area known as Lower Marsh which has a few shops and a (very) small market, as well as a good bar, but its not particuarily great. However, venture 5/10 minutes further south into the centre of Lambeth and this problem does not exist.
-No amenities in the accommodation. After visiting an Imperial friends accommodation, this actually quite p*ssed me off. He paid £50 more than me, but gets two snooker tables, a bar underneath the accommodation, a widescreen TV, games machines, etc. We get a cr*ppy TV room that always stinks of sweat! Makes you wonder where the money goes!

Overall, its good, and I'm glad I didnt pay stupid amounts for the apartments. I wouldnt want to be anywhere else.

KingsLaw I'm hunting you because you seem to know so much about a) King's, and B) Law

What are the chances of getting Stamford St or Great Dover St realistically?

In your knowledge does *everyone* apply there?
