Hi I've applied for speech and language therapy

Oh cool! Have you heard back from them yet? I applied for Foundation leading to Health Sciences, to hopefully then move on to do Healthcare Science, I got an offer last week!

Hi me too! I had an interview recently. It's my top choice so I was really nervous about it! Have you heard anything back yet?

Hi Guys!
I've received an offer to study business in September. Struggling to choose accommodation, has anyone viewed or would recommend particular accommodation? I am looking for Llandaff Campus in particular, but any suggestions would be great!
Hi, I have firmed an offer for a course located at the Llandaff campus. I'll share with you my thoughts on the topic of accommodation. Personally, I'm looking at Blackweir. It seems to be in a good enough area with shops and close proximity to the city centre, but not too far from the campus that would require endless bus travel; it is a short enough walk through the park or an even quicker cycle, I believe that Cardiff has hire bikes everywhere. Plas Gwyn is probably closer to the campus, but it seems to be a much quieter area, a bit further from shops and the city centre. I would personally avoid looking at the private halls in the city centre because the travel times would drive me insane; I'm probably more likely to skip a day the further away I am (I can be a bit lazy!) I suppose it is also worth the piece of mind that you will be living with other Cardiff Met students if you apply through them. This would benefit me because there would be more of a chance to socialise on campus between lectures and freshers week etc... The last thing I want to do is go to a freshers event on my own!!!Once again, only my opinion on this topic, and most importantly, please bear in mind that I have never been to Cardiff, not seen the campus or any accommodation.

Thank you for that! I am thinking Blackweir or North Court, both are in different locations but seem to me they are equidistance from most things apart from the city centre. I did like that Blackweir lodge seems to have more communal social spaces, even if its something I don't use, the option is there. I definitely want to avoid busses to campus. In terms of Plas Gwyn, I felt it looks a bit dated so have ruled it out (I think) but the Unite photos may do their accommodation better justice! I've visited and think the Llandaff campus is quite nice, I wasn't a fan of Cardiff Unis campus personally, it seemed very soulless. I am lucky enough to only be a couple hours away, so I am going up again at the beginning of April (On the day applications open annoyingly!) and plan on viewing either North court or Blackweir lodge and will let you know what its like!

Where about's are you from? and what course are you studying?

i do agree, plas gwyn looks dated in comparison and the social spaces + slightly more advantageous location do edge the blackweir for me. I never really considered going to look at the accomidation thats a good idea to be honest, for all we know Unite Students could be pulling heist of the century on us with the photos, you never know..

I'm from Wrexham, which isnt a massive distance from cardiff but it does seems like a world away due to the woeful transport links that connect north and south wales.
I firmed a conditional offer for Environmental Health at met and i am doing Applied Science BTEC at the moment.

Definitely! I am a bit worried that I will turn up in sept and it will be a dump so am checking it out for peace of mind as am up there anyway. Oh I see, I'm from Devon so not too far from Cardiff. Wishing you the best of luck with your course!

I'm Abi and I've been offered a place (already accepted) for Primary education so the Cyncoed campus but I'm really confused about the accommodation. I'm visiting the Blackweir unite halls as their accommodation looks better than the on-campus self-catering plus I'll be nearer town for going out and work opportunities. I know friends who are there this year and they feel on-campus rooms are overpriced and dated. I live in Bristol so feel it would be stupid not to check out the unite halls being that it can be done in a day.

Is anyone else looking at Unite or got good things to say about the self-catering accommodation on the Cyncoed campus?

This is a really good point. I'll be based at the Cyncoed Campus but it appears both sites are a 20-minute bus ride away from Blackweir. I'm thinking of nightlife so thought nearer City Centre would be better but at least like you say I would be able to socialise at freshers if the students were from the same uni. I'm viewing the rooms next week and happy to report back. I also want to check if it really is a 20-minute bus ride to Uni.

North Court only has studios left , I'm shocked how quickly the rooms are booked up so I'm keen to book Blackweir after visiting next week.

Don’t book via unite!! All of the unite ‘halls’ shared flats are only bookable through the uni on the 1st april. If you don’t book through the uni, the contract is longer and you may not be with other cardiff met students. definitely report back when you view them, are you viewing north court and blackweir? i’m based at Llandaff campus so i can’t give to much advice on location, however a proper look on google maps helped my choice!

I'm going to book viewings at all in that area. I'm just worried as it stated under how we allocate the Unite halls are awarded to students from the linked campus and on the Uni website, Blackweir is for your campus. Tesco is transferring me to the Tesco Extra by you so Blackweir would put be bang in the middle of Tesco, Uni, and Cardiff nightlife/shops.

May be worth contacting the accommodation team to see the likely hood of getting Blackweir / North Court? are you unconditional as that should increase ur chances?

I have already accepted I was offered at my interview so accepted straight away as Cardiff Met was always my first choice Please could you explain how it works, when I apply on Friday. Do you put the halls in order of preference do you then also have to pick the preferred room options if there's more than one? To be honest I don't really mind if the students in my flat are from other Uni's if we are all first years.

From what i understand you rank 4 accommodations in order of preference so may not end up with your first. I believe you do room options at the same time but their website is not clear on this. If you book privately they may not necessarily all be first year, but i don’t know too much about how unites own process works sorry!

Ok, so I have spoken with the Met Uni accommodation team who were super helpful. So I've been told to apply at 00:00 as applications are processed in date and time order. I was told that as I'm in the first allocation (as would anyone who has accepted an unconditional offer) I shouldn't be a reason not to get allocated Blackweir. They suggested a google streetview tour of the area. It's perfect for me.

2 bus stops from the City, bus stop literally outside the halls
Tesco, Aldi and Lidl are within walking distance or a bus ride.
Both Uni Campuses seem around 20-minute walk.
A friend at my work said they had been in Blackweir and it was a great setup with a really good location for nightlife etc so no expensive taxis

So I'm applying without viewing the rooms as It could mean I miss out.

I've been told it's the best unite, quite sociable, the friends at Uni now say their on Campus halls as very dated. They also said all the Unite rooms are the same whichever halls you are in but the other halls don't have the community areas that Blackweir provides. I think everything considered it still comes down to what your flatmates are like. We might even end up on the same floor if we both get in. Good luck!
