TSR is asking the question: Which US President was the most significant?

We're holding a tournament of US Presidents and asking you to vote to determine which was the most significant in history. We are currently in the Semi finals of this tournament, and this is Semi Final 1.

All the other semi finals are linked at the bottom of this post, and there's a hub thread here if you're interested in reading more.

Without further Ado the candidates are:

Franklin D Roosevelt 1933-1945 (Dem)

Roosevelt won a record 4 Presidential Elections and he continued his winning form by topping his group comfortably, he Implemented the new deal to help soften the blow of the great depression. He also took the US into WW2 after the attack at Pearl Harbour. Roosevelt died in office in 1945

Ulysses S. Grant (1869-1877) (Repub)
A former American military officer and civil rights executive, Ulysses S. Grant was the 18th president of the United States from 1869 to 1877. He was responsible for the creation of the Justice Department and protected African Americans during Reconstruction. He led the Union Army to victory in the American Civil War.

Harry Truman (D, 1945-1953)
Harry S Truman (1884–1972) served as a senator for the state of Missouri before becoming president, Truman served as vice-president before becoming the president after the death of Roosevelt but won of his own accord in 1948. Truman is perhaps known for implementing the Marshall Plan and the Berlin Airlift, the rebuilding of Europe after WW2 and submitting the first civil rights legislation. However his intervention in the Korean War did not gain congressional approval and his popularity fell, while alleged corruption caused his polls to fall. Despite this, several landmarks occurred during his tenure, such as the atomic bomb, China becoming communist and Israel becoming a state. Truman was also the first person or thing mentioned in Billy Joel's we didn't start the fire.

Donald Trump (R, 2017–2021)
Also known as thicc orange, Donald John Trump (1946–) is an American politician, media personality, and businessman who served as the 45th president of the United States. Born and raised in Queens, New York City, Trump graduated from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania with a bachelor's degree in 1968. He became president of his father Fred Trump's real estate business in 1971 and renamed it The Trump Organization. Trump expanded the company's operations to building and renovating skyscrapers, hotels, casinos, and golf courses. He later started various side ventures, mostly by licensing his name. From 2004 to 2015, he co-produced and hosted the reality television series The Apprentice. Trump and his businesses have been involved in more than 4,000 state and federal legal actions, including six bankruptcies.

Once you have decided, please vote in the poll attached to the thread. This poll will close on Friday 18th February at 12 noon. The top two Presidents will move through to the final.

Gonna stick with Truman here, because we  the Western Alliance, but also in the hope that it opens things up a bit!

Truman with FDR a close second for me.
Trumps inclusion being somewhat confusing giving his lack of any real achievements. the only reason i can think he might have made it past the second round is that he actually got elected in the first place.. other than that he has no business having made it this far
I expected this SF to be a two horse race and initial voting suggests that prediction to be correct. FDR gets my vote for his longevity of service over Truman, who had a profound effect on the Cold War. FDR's foreign influence and domestic idealism I think represents a crossroads for the US at the time for the nation and unpicking that period is crucial to understanding the fundamentals of the nation as it is today.
I can't decide between Roosevelt and Truman, but since Truman is the underdog out of the two I will back him to make things interesting!
I see Trump's got a vote.

Must be from himself...
I think Trump is extremely significant but not in a good way!
3/4 with reasonable votes here.
No surprises that Grant is in fourth...
The Results of Semi-Final 1 are:
Franklin D Roosevelt (7)
Harry Truman (5)
Donald Trump (3)
Ulysses Grant (0)

FDR and Truman progress to the final.
Franklin Roosevelt and Harry Truman proceed to the Grand Final, which you can vote in here!
